Should i be concerned if my doctor said that I have laxity in my knees. What exactly is this and is this good or bad?
Every morning I get out of bed and my knees and ankles pop constantly. Is that good or bad? Should I stop popping them?
No pain, no problem: We used to think that popping our knuckles, neck, back etc. Caused arthritis. However, there is no evidence of causal relationship has been found until this time. It is indeed a habit and once formed, the joints "feel the need to pop" intermittently. As long as it does not cause pain while doing it. Enjoy the popping. If u don't like to hear the pop, don't do it. It will stop with time. Good luck. ...Read more

Ression with an ace wrap, & elevate, to allow things to settle down for the next 3-5 days. Nsaids like Ibuprofen or aleve (naproxen) for pain & discomfort would be helpful.

What is it about turmeric that it works so good? I have a bad knee and decided to try it and it takes away a lot of the pain so how does it do that?
Hi, Thank you for your question.
Curcumin is most known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties. The compound has been shown to influence more than 700 genes, and it can inhibit both the activity and the synthesis of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2) and 5-lipooxygenase (5-LOX), as well as other enzymes that have been implicated in inflammation.
Hope that helps, Dr. M. ...Read more

I fell on Christmas and had really bad burning on the front of my knee in one spot for about two days. Now when I touch it on right side I feel pulling on the left side and numbness in a small area?
Knee injury: A contusion of the knee structures would be likely if you landed on your knee when you fell. Numbness is probably due to bruising of superficial nerves. Bone or patella bruises may take a couple of weeks to heal. Worrisome signs would be swelling, persistence or worsening of pain. See an orthopedic surgeon if you still have significant knee discomfort. ...Read more

Inflammation,: After a usual form of exercise, joints can become inflamed. This can happen when we engage in activities that use our muscles and joints in ways that we don't normally use them. Rest, ibuprofen or tylenol, (acetaminophen) ice or heat, is a reasonable plan for now. If you have significant swelling, or fever, or your knee gives way, see somebody as soon as possible. Regular skating when better, can prevent this ...Read more

Can I burn calories riding stationary bike and is it a good idea with bad knee? I have TKR coming up in February. Also, should I get second opinion? Ty
Yes you can: Biking is usually a good exercise option for those with knee osteoarthritis. It is non-impact and tolerated by most. Honestly, with an upcoming knee replacement, it's unlikely your arthritis will worsen between now and then. The biking can keep your muscles toned and may help you in your rehabilitation after surgery. A second opinion is always a wise idea before undergoing a major surgery. ...Read more
