What causes a heart attack. My BP is under control on med I do smoke but no heart disease. I am 41 female. Should I be scared?
Quit Smoking: Tobacco causes damage in the lining of your blood vessels and increased clumping of platelets (clots). Smoking causes heart attacks, strokes, leg amputations, lung disease and cancer. You're a young woman - it's time for you to quit smoking! Other than rapidly opening blocked arteries in an acute heart attack the only intervention to save more hearts is quitting smoking!! What type of heart disease can u get from smoking and do u have to have it first to possibly get a heart attack.
Coronary artery dz: Nicotine from smoking causes injury to blood vessels that supply blood to heart muscle. Eventually, plaque forms in the blood vessels. Plaque can rupture & a blood clot forms, blocking blood flow, so that part of heart is injured or dies. Many plaques grow into the wall of the artery rather than out into the opening where the blood flows, not showing up on tests & causing no symptoms until the rupture.
41 female no heart disease all blood and strs test normal on BP med press good I smoke can this alone cause me to have a sudden heart attack?
AbsolutelyStressTest: Of very low value because they are totally incapable of detecting arterial disease. They are only partially capable of detecting complications of very advanced arterial disease, i.e. severe narrowing (e.g. >75%) due to clots over previous plaque ruptures; see the illustration I have attached. While EKG stress tests work best, they are still very insensitive; Docs perform because insurance pays.
I am a 28 year old woman who has been under a great deal of stress lately. I read stress causes heart disease. Could I be at risk of having a heart attack?
Myth: The stuff about "type A personality" causing heart disease was a fake subsidized by millions of dollars of tobacco company money to divert attention from the real cause. "Stress" may be good or bad -- the good kind gets me up in the morning to be productive; it's bad only when you can't cope (i.e., trapped in a bad situation). Hoping things get better, but I'm not persuaded this ever caused a MI.
Are people recently diagnosed with lymphoma at an increased risk for heart attack if they already have heart disease?
Is there a certain kind of fingernail ridges can indicate a heart attack or heart disease. Can someone tell me more about this?

Can someone still have a heart attack after the cardiologist saying that every test looks normal and there´s no evidence of heart disease?
If you do not have heart disease can smoking cause a heart attack at 41 or do yiu have to be diagnosed with CAD or pad first?
Remember: The problem with heart disease is that you usually don't know that you have it until you have a heart attack. Also know, that even with a normal stress test, it doesn't mean that you don't have heart disease, just that if you do, it's not severe enough to cause blood flow issues even when exercises. Smoking and high blood pressure are issues that you want to address as soon as possible.See 2 more doctor answers
Is it possible for a person with no heart disease have an attack that leads to a heart attack if they have multiple sclerosis?
My grandfather had a heart attack & Indians are at high risk. I'm 22 -- is there an evidence based protocol to avoiding heart disease? Diet/exercise?
It is good to keep: Family history in mind but most people have relatives who have had cardiac problems. Lifestyle is a major factor. After your doc has ruled out any medical conditions you can see a nutritionist for a health diet to fit your body. You might also get a micronutrient test from Spectracell lab in TX. Peace and good health.
