Is 264 Cholesterol Bad
Cholesterol: Cholesterol has multiple components. The high density component is called 'good' and the low density component is called 'bad'. This is because high levels of HDL are somewhat associated with less vascular disease and high levels of LDL are associated with worse vascular disease. ...Read more
Total cholesterol is 211. Good cholesterol 85. Bad cholesterol 111. What can I do to get my bad cholesterol down?
Might do you harm!: With a HDL of 85 i see no benefit to lowering your ldl. Low cholesterol can be as hazardous as high cholesterol. The role of cholesterol in heart disease is overestimated. My total cholesterol is 4.2, triglycerides is 1.39, HDL is .90, LDL is 3.19 coronary risk is 5.24. What can you tell me?
3 recommendations: Different if you have stablished cad; s/p heart attack or no history of cad. If u have CAD LDL should be less than 2.59mmol/lt and less than 1.81 if a very high risk of coronary event. If no CAD and just high cholesterol the data is more controversial. If you have high chol and two more risk factor i will treat to lower your total chol:hdl to less than 5.5. If no risk factors see your physician. ...Read more
Total cholesterol 219, HDL 73, LDL 114, vldl 32, triglycerides 161. Thought i was eating good. No fried foods & not a lot of sugar. Is my lipid panel bad?
Need Particle Data: High triglyceride (tg) is often a marker for high LDL particle number (ldl-p). As tg rise ldl-p rises. However, when tg is high the amount of cholesterol carried by LDL particles goes down. This often results in "normal" LDL cholesterol (ldl-c) and low hdl-c levels despite high (ldl-p). When ldl-p is high cardiovascular risk is high independent of ldl-c, hdl-c, tg levels. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Probably not but...: Contrary to popular belief, cholesterol is not a major cause of heart disease; the real cause is inflammation. However, it is reasonable to look at the subtypes of LDL as if it is mostly the small dense type it is of some concern. You should test other risk factors like CRP, homocysteine and Lp (a). Raise HDL: Unfortunately it is difficult to raise HDL (good cholesterol) on your own. More regular exercise and a glass of red wine daily has been shown to help but ultimately with a level of 27 you might need medications to help improve level. My triglycerides is 49.9, HDL is 72, my LDL is 135.21 and my total cholesterol is 217.19. Is this ok?
My total cholesterol count is 236. My triglycerides are 118 my HDL is 95, vldl is 24 & LDL is 117. Can an omeaga 3 pill help lower it?
Why?: If you don't have risk factors for or a history of cardiovascular disease, your numbers would be ok. Part of the reason your total cholesterol is high is that your HDL is high, which has a protective effect. Based on the most recent guidelines, you would not really need any treatment for your levels. ...Read more

Not too bad.: Your risk of heart disease is increased a little over the average, but your 10 year risk of heart disease is actually fairly low. I guess 2%. Don't know your precise number because I do not know your blood pressure...Look at the Framingham Risk Score on line. Should put your mind at ease. Check your numbers with your doc so they can look at the bigger picture - Family history, other risks, etc. ...Read more
Yes, does having a lipid panel of total cholesterol 227, HDL 76, Triglycerides 79 and LDl 135 constitute having a bad heart? Are these bad results?
That's pretty good.: While your LDL could afford to be a bit lower (< 100 to be really good), your HDL is really high, which is very heart-protective, and your triglycerides are in an acceptable range. Your total is high in part because your HDL is so high, which is a good thing. But again, the LDL could afford to be a bit lower. ...Read more
