Is 1037 Temperature Bad For A 4 Year Old
S/he look okay?: The height of the fever is not as important as the duration, response to antipyretics (tylenol, motrin), and how the child appears. I tend to be more worried about a baby with a temp of 101 who looks ill, than one with a temp of 104 (responding to medication down to 101) who is playful or appears a little more perky. Over 3 days of fever or a temperature above 105 should prompt a call or visit. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Depends: Fever is part of the body's defense. It makes it more difficult for the germ/virus to win the battle. Thus the fever goes when the "battle" is won. If the temp goes unusually high, e.g. 105, tepid sponging of the whole body helps without causing trouble. We now know that aspirin, given to a child sometijmes gives rise to complications that are worse than the uri/flu etc. ...Read more

Likely viral: The average 4yo will have 2-3 diarrhea illnesses/yr form a variety of intestinal viruses. These are often acquired at day care or other community settings & brought home on contaminated fingers. They can start with or without fever & may or may not include vomiting. Bowel germs: This could be as simple as an odd collection of bacteria in the kids intestine that make stinky gas to something worse.Kids with untreated cystic fibrosis do not make enough enzymes to digest their food & end up with gas that would clear a room. This : This sounds a lot like night terrors. Night terrors or sleep terrors are most commonly found in kids between the ages of 4 years to 12 years old. They can involve: -sitting up in bed -screaming -thrashing about or flailing -being difficult to wake up -inconsolable -sleep walking -a wide-eyed stare -sweating, heavy breathing, and fast heartbeat unlike a nightmare, the children typically have no memory of the episode. The good news is that most kids grow out of it by the time they hit adolescence. Here are a few tips to help her (and you!) cope with the current situation: -if she's sleepwalking or getting up, make the environment safe (close doors, hide electrical cords, lock windows, etc. -try to have her get more sleep since fatigue can make sleep terrors worse -establish a regular, quiet, calming routine before bed -see if anything is stressing your child out and talk about it - stress and anxiety can make sleep terrors worse -look for a pattern - if she's getting up at the same time every night, try waking her up 15 minutes before the episode to break the pattern if the terrors are worsening, becoming more frequent, are effecting her and your ability to function during the day, or if you think she could be a danger to herself, contact her doctor. ...Read more
