I am using a corticosteroid nasal spray for allergies but now my tonsils feel irritated and dry. No signs of swelling. Could the spray cause it? If yes should I discontinue it? I can't get in touch with me ENT until Monday.

Sniffed too hard: 21 yo female using steroid nasal spray now with irritated dry tonsils. Nasal sprays only work well if patients use them properly. Sniffing the spray too hard/too much will cause liquid to run down throat and not go where it needs to (inside of nasal passages/sinuses). This can cause dryness. Please only a small sniff. Point the spray tip out and back (like towards ear) so not to cause irritation ...Read more

Tonsil on one side always gets irritated for a while after exposed to certain chemicals. Always been sensitive to chemicals but why only one tonsil?

Good question: because toxins usually affect everything; but possibly you have some scarring or irritation from previous infections in that one tonsil. Or maybe you breathe preferentially through one nostril that feeds to that tonsil. I guess the best strategy is to avoid all exposure to chemicals, maybe gargle with salt water immediately if you are exposed anyway, and not to worry too much. Good luck! ...Read more

It is possible: It is possible. However it is not safe to guess about whether or not it is viral. It is best to have a streph throat test. There can be many complications from untreated streph throat. Gargle: Sometimes gargling can dislodge the debris in your tonsils. If you are trying to push out the stones, you may be causing the bleeding. If you are not touching the tonsils, and they are bleeding, make an appt to see an ENT doctor. ...Read more
