Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

How early can I take a pregnancy test if I have irregular periods?

How early can I take a pregnancy test if I have irregular periods?

~2 wks aftr fertiliz: A home pregnancy test will generally be + approx 2 wks after fertilization, or about the time that a period would be expected if cycles are regular. If they are irregular, this still applies. Ovulation occurs about 14 d before an expected period--so if your cycle varies from 24 to 35 days, ovulation might be as early as cycle day 10 (10+14=24d), or as late as cycle day 21 (21+14 =35d).

Irregular periods, trying to get pregnant. When should I take a pregnancy test?

Irregular periods, trying to get pregnant. When should I take a pregnancy test?

Any time: With irregular periods it is difficult to predict when ovulation would happen. The pregnancy test would be positive about 10 days after conception (or ovulation). However, you can do a pregnancy test any time.

I have irregular periods (ranging 12-38 days in between periods). When can I take a pregnancy test and expect accurate results?

About 40 days: Home pregnancy test should be done 4-5 days after a missed period. However, given the wide range of your cycle, it would be okay to test 40 days after the last period. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions in the kit carefully.

Needs evaluation: Bleeding during pregnancy may be common but it is not normal and should always be evaluated by your doctor. It is important to verify that you have a viable pregnancy located inside of the uterus.

I have irregular periods but never normally this long, I'm 8 and a half weeks late and have done 2 pregnancy tests which have both been negative?

I have irregular periods but never normally this long, I'm 8 and a half weeks late and have done 2 pregnancy tests which have both been negative?

Needs evaluated: Urine pregnancy tests while quite accurate depend on the particular hormone being in the urine. This in turns depends on the level of hormone in the blood [varies person-person and length of gestation] and how the kidneys are functioning. Many pregnant women have neg urine for as long as two months. A blood pregnancy test is completely reliable. Perhaps pregnancy needs ruled out.

I had bought a cheap pregnancy test and I took it two times both came out positive. But I also read about irregular periods so, what should I do?

I had bought a cheap pregnancy test and I took it two times both came out positive. But I also read about irregular periods so, what should I do?

Serum Pregnancy test: You have had two pregnancy test that were positive. The cost of them is likely irrelevant and I would assume they were marketed with some degree of quality control at any price. I suggest that you make an appointment with your primary care provider for a serum pregnancy test which produce very reliable results.

If I have very irregular periods, when should I take a pregnancy test and be accurate? Some say it took them more than 8 weeks to know if they r preg!

About a month: After your last period. The ideal time to do a pregnancy test is 4-5 days after a missed period. However, as you have irregular periods, a practical strategy may be do the test about a month after the last period and if you still do not get your period a week later, you may repeat the test.

I have very irregular periods and don't know when I'm supposed to get it, I took a pregnancy test and it was positive can it b cause I took test late?

Well, it's really: Postive because sperm met up with an egg after unprotected intercourse. Get on some Folic Acid or a birth control pill and make an appointment. Try upt again, maybe it was a false positive but that is unusual. Good luck.

I feel pregnant with symptoms & irregular periods and unclear pregnancy results results, why could this be?

Hormonal changes: As your hormones change with your cycles, your mood and your symptoms will change. If you are sexually active make sure to practice safe sex and have plan with your physician or your GYN for birth control. Your irregular period would indicate that your hormones are not balanced. Your doctor can help you with that.

I keep on having irregular periods this is my second time, and I took two tests and came negative for pregnancy, what should I do?

Some choices: Irregular periods are quite common and usually don't reflect a problem in young women like you, but that doesn't help the anxiety that this creates. The birth control pill will regulate your periods while providing birth control. Long acting contraception like the implant (Implanon) or the IUD (e.g. Skyla) will not regulate your periods but will provide extremely effective birth control.
