What are the side-effects of IV iron? Will I have to get a port for infusions or will they use a regular IV? I'm getting them 1x/week for 8 weeks.

Not an easy question: Though some salts of iron are better absorbed than others, they may not provide the same amount of elemental iron. You may have to sacrifice one for the other. It's your call: I think they're safe enough, the chances of serious harm from them is low, and you'll feel better faster. Some folks do get sickish during the infusion.
