Iron Injections For Low Ferritin
Ferritin is protein complex that binds iron and controls iron levels inside all of our cells. Low levels in the serum is a useful marker of iron deficiency. Macrophages are cells that contain large amounts of ferritin, and this that helps them scavenge RBC at sites of old hemorrhage. High serum ferritin levels occurs from macrophage activation and is a ...Read more
High iron serum-167, low ferritin-113.Cbc&cmp normal.Symptoms:fatigue and mild anxiety. Are symptoms of iron overload possible with low iron 'storage'?
Yes: All three are related to iron metabolism but have different implications. Low ferritin is a good indication of iron deficiency but normal ferritin level does not rule it out. Iron and iron binding capacity help in differentiation between iron deficiency and anemia of chronic disease. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Recent labs showed high platelets high iron high tibc low normal ferritin level of 12 is this iron deficiency ?
Likely: The best test for iron deficiency anemia (ida) is ferritin. Sometimes when there is inflammation (an possible associated anemia of chronic disease/inflammation, the ferritin may increase as an acute phase reactant). The "gold standard" for diagnosis is a bone marrow biopsy, but rarely needed. High platelets are also associated with ida. Treatment should improve platelets and ferritin. ...Read more
I have iron deficiency anemia. Current bloodwork: Transferrin 379, iron 120, TIBC 565, iron saturation 21.2. Hgb 8.9, above results still anemia??
Yes indeed: Hemoglobin 8.9 is anemia, period. Please forgive my frankness. I hope that no one is forcing you to be a non-supplementing vegetarian. If you have blood loss, either monthly or from illness, I hope the source is discovered -- it could be ulcer, cancer, hookworm, etc. If you tolerate oral iron poorly, please consider an injectable form. Best wishes. ...Read more
What is the optimal serum ferritin level for hair health? Can heavy periods and/or a vegetarian diet w/inadequate iron intake cause low ferritin level
See below: Ferritin levels are not associated with hair health. Heavy periods and vegetarian diet could lead to iron deficiency, and low serum ferritin. It can be easily addressed by taking oral iron and multivitamins. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

Iron def anemia: You have iron deficiency anemia-from your blood work provided. You need iron supplement-but most importantly to find out why you have iron deficiency anemia. Bleeding/blood loss- , malabsorption of iron in the stomach, or poor nutrition status/not enough intake of iron from the food could be the cause. Go to see your pmd and have more eval. If needed, referral to a hematologist can be done by pmd. ...Read more

I have hemoglobin 10.6 (low).I have iron serum of 25 micrograms.dl. Unsaturated IBC 358 High, Total TIBC 383(normal) and % iron sat 7%.My RBC normal , (MCV MCH, MCHC) low and RDW hIgh iS it IDA/ACD?
HFE mutation with low *6.7* ferritin and 61% sat. Do I need high sats AND high ferritin for iron deposits in body? Concern for low ferritin? Thanks!
Can be Iron def: Hemochromatosis results in increased iron absorption from diet. But it will not stop iron deficiency if you are losing iron/blood such as menstruation or pregnancy. Low ferritin says iron stores are low. High transferrin sat says you absorb excess iron from what you eat. Women with homozygous HC get organ damage about a decade later than men for this reason. If you are anemic take (!) iron briefly ...Read more
Low iron and saturation %, normal tranferrine and ferrantine levels.I have thalassimia.Cbc normal. Why are iron and saturation% low.Thankyou?

Anemia found on labs. Iron serum: 21 Iron Saturation: 4, Ferritin: 3. Very heavy periods, and hadn't been taking iron. Blood transfusion needed?
How do you FEEL?: I'm glad this was recognized in time. You'll need a transfusion only if you're seriously symptomatic and can't last long enough to have your stores rebuilt by supplements. Please comply. Your best source of iron is red meat. Iron in spinach is bound to an acid that makes it not absorbable and broccoli as a wonderful source of iron is a myth made up by vegetarians. Good luck and be discerning. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
MCHC: MCHC=mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration This value is a calculated value of hemoglobin per red cell. In iron deficiency the body has difficulty making enough hemoglobin, and the resultant cells are both small and low on hgb. The defect with PA is not with hgb synthesis but with cell replication and nuclear maturation, so the amount of hgb/cell is unaffected. ...Read more
Taking iron supplements, my ferritin is very low (5), my tranferrin and iron are normal. My TIBC and % transferrin saturation are high. Cause?
Partially treated: Ferritin reflects body storage iron, while serum iron and transferrin saturation reflect current iron circulating in plasma. When you take oral iron supplement, the amount of iron in circulation (absorbed from gut on its way to storage sites) is transiently high. Your data suggest you have iron deficiency, partially treated, with blood tests taken within a day or two of your most recent iron pill. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Transferrin sat: Your best screen is transferrin saturation. Many of us think that the current recommendation of 45% or more for women, 50% of more for men miss too many people. If you actually have evidence of liver troubles (elevated SGOT / SGPT, for example), think about getting a serum ferritin. With a family history, get the gene testing to know early. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
