What is the equianalgesic dose when comparing 50mg tramadol to Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride)?

What about 30mg codiene to Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride)?

Tramadol?

50mg tramadol to Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride)?: Meperidine (Demerol) 50 mg was superior to tramadol 50 mg for acute pain relief in patients with suspected renal colic when given intravenously. Because many patients in both groups received supplemental meperidine and the response to tramadol alone cannot be predicted, clinicians may want to choose higher doses of meperidine alone or other alternative combinations. ...Read more

Is viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) often prescribed for anxiety?

No, mostly.: But that's because it's a really new drug, so it's not prescribed "often" for anything! It IS an antidepressant, and all antidepressants are also used as antianxiety meds. This is because depression and anxiety are often considered to be flip sides of the same coin within psychiatry. If you are not comfortable with idea of the med, talk to your doc. Can periactin (cyproheptadine hydrochloride) (cyproheptadine) be useful in relieving serotonin induced migraine caused by an ssri? Periactin (cyproheptadine hydrochloride) has antiserotonin affinity. Head hurts..

Might be useful: Although Cyproheptadine is nominally an anti-histamine, it does have seratonin antagonistic effects, and, has been best used as a migraine preventative in years past. Since it is cheap, could try it, but likely should start low dose and aim for about 4mg every 6 hrs. May take about two weeks to decide success at the higher dose. ...Read more

Cea is rising 1 point per month while on irinotecan . Does this mean not responding to treatment ?

Cea is rising 1 point per month while on irinotecan . Does this mean not responding to treatment ?

CEA often fluctuates: We have to give 2 months of chemo before we can assess response. CEA is not enirely reliabnle unless you have done it 3-4 times in a row, one month aprt. Then it will show us a trend for tumor being better or worse. Yet we rely much more on Imaging studies(CT scan etc) along with patient symptoms and doctor's examination. All together(these 4 items) will help us conclude if tumor is getting small ...Read more

What happens if for mcrc, Xeloda (capecitabine) n irinotecan has failed ? The person has about 3,4 mets ?

Not really: Having failed does not necessarily represent progression of metastasis but possibly no evidence of extensive disease progression. In such a case if disease is in liver isotope infusion or chemoembolization may help. If new lung lesions are seen, they may be amenable to resection and if progression has occurred newer immunotherapy approaches such as with Neo 102 can give better than 1 yr. survival . ...Read more

Maybe: The treatment for metastatic colorectal Ca also includes FOLFOX which includes the platinum drugs as part of the combo. If not yet taken one should consider this protocol. I usually obtain fresh tumor from bx to send for chemosensitization. If these fail, chemo with Erbitux or Avastin (bevacizumab) may prove beneficial. ...Read more

Possible disease: CEA is a marker for monitoring the presence of active malignancy. It cant be used for diagnosis which refers to the potential existence of cancer which has not yet been defined. As a monitoring marker progressive increase in the level at present, that is 10, means failure to respond to treatment. Should levels drop, it means the patient is responding. A single level of 10 cant be interpreted. ...Read more

Cea rising on irinotecan since started in October . 1 point increase each month . Cea 10 at present . Is chemo Not working ?

Possibly not working: Irinotecan is an antineoplastic agent that interferes with the production of proteins necessary for cancer cell growth and reproduction. It is used primarily for treating cancer of the colon and rectum. While the CEA is of some value in monitoring one must be able to define if a rising marker does indicate drug failure. Here a PET/CAT scan can show if there is recurrence or progression of disease ...Read more

Can a 1 point CEA rise per Month on irinotecan mean chemo not working ? Irinotecan started in oct. Oct cea-8 Dec cea-9 Jan cea-10

No: CEA is a crude marker for recurrent or persistent tumor. It is only of value when a significant change occurs representing progression or response to therapy. It has no value as a diagnostic marker. To be significant a 10-20 point rise monthly for at least 3 months helps determine progression or not. A one point change is within lab error. ...Read more

Progression disease: Irinotecan (Camptosar (irinotecan) ) is a drug used for the treatment of cancer. Irinotecan prevents DNA from unwinding by inhibition of topoisomerase 1. In clinical trials it is used for metastatic tumor such as colon Ca. The CEA acting as a tumor marker is only of value in monitoring response to treatment so that elevation means growing tumor. Diagnosis cant be made by presence of CEA in serum. ...Read more
