Hydrogen Peroxide or Saline Solution with Povidone Iodine is better solution for cut, abrasion and wound?

Iodine: In general for minor cuts and abrasions the use of antiseptic therapy solutions is not warrented. These solutions (especially H2O2 peroxide) cause cell death and impair wound healing. IF a wound requires cleaning, iodine (specifically iodosorb) has been shown to reduce bacterial load. Therefore, povidone is a better choice than H2O2 for wound cleansing. ...Read more

Possible allergy: Betadine and other iodine-containing topical treatments can be very irritating to the skin, and in some cases can cause tissue damage. An allergic reaction to iodine is also possible. All can take time to calm down, even with a decent topical steroid. I often recommend a simple route by using plain vaseline on a superficial wound to protect while your body does what it does best to heal. ...Read more

Septic joint?: The incident you describe can result in bacteria gaining access to other areas of your body through your cut finger, despite your diligence in cleaning the wound. Joint pain, decreased motion, redness and swelling of the skin can indicate spread of infection from the original site. Maybe, maybe not: Any wound that opens the skin can allow tetanus spores access to create an infection. A rusty nail is a classic exposure but any cut could be a source. Good cleaning and care can help. If you can't remember receiving a booster within the past 10 years it is a good idea to get one. ...Read more

Infected scrapes: Poor wound cleaning, smoking, suntanning and excessive alcohol use can all cause a depressed immune system and a poor response to healing of a wound.
