Personal choice: If you are having to chase baby down at feeding time or they wiggle to get free after 5min/side, you have a baby who likes the nutrition but doesn't need the nurturing bf provides.Weaning or supplementing is your call but at that point it is likely to go well. Weaning?: Hello AllenR727 6 months breast is usually adequate in USA. Baby is refusing the breast and wanting solids is a good sign baby is growing fast now and needs more calories than he is getting. I would stop breast if he is refusing and place him on solids only. How do I introduce baby to solid food without my fear of choking? I plan on all homemade food. Terrified of giving anything too chewy or hard. Advice?
Choking: You don't say how old baby is. But if he is ready, start wit soft food blended to smooth consitancy. Small spoonfuls. Have him sitting up straight in high chair and watch him closely as he swallows and spits out. Don't force him. Once you relax and he gets used to it, you can try thicker food...And so on. Keep in mind that some babies, especially preemies, may not be developmentally ready for this. By solid foods I am referring to jar baby foods, or foods that you will puree yourself at home.
