It may be a specific: Type of disc herniation that is located at the point where the nerve exits the spine and when lying down on your back or stomach the nerve exit hole or foramen is narrowed so if a disc is present there it will further compress the nerve. See your doctor for an x-ray -most likely spondylolisthesis-a developmental instability in the 4th or 5th lumbar vertebra. Less likely is arthritis from old injury or a birth defect.
