Can you tell me if I had a breast implant how many years could it last before it ruptured?

Can you tell me if I had a breast implant how many years could it last before it ruptured?

I've seen it last 40: No one can tell you exactly how long. About 50% have them exchanged for various reasons (not all rupture) by 10 years. However, if there is no problems and you are happy they can last much longer. I have seen patients have breast implants last 40 years without a problem. ...Read more

Why does my breast implant feel hard? I've had my breast implants in for 3 years now and I've noticed that the right breast it feels hardened on one side. Did it rupture? Is this something to worry about?

When: When any implant is inserted the body reacts by forming a lining of tissue around it called the capsule. In some cases the capsule begins to shrink, squeezing the implant that it surrounds. Though the exact causes of capsular contracture are largely unknown, there are factors that can contribute to this complication, including:

germ contamination during implantation
seroma (the development of extra fluid around implant)
hematoma (internal bleeding)
infection
smoking
placement of implant above muscle (when placed bellow the muscle capsular contracture occurs with less frequency)
depending upon the severity the breast can feel firm or hard, become distorted, and begin to cause pain.

To cure or treat capsular contracture there are both surgical and non-surgical options.

Non-surgical

prescribed antibiotics and vitamin e. While this is not always effective as a cure, many surgeons will suggest that patients take a regular dose of vitamin E for the first year after augmentation as it helps to keep tissue soft.
Closed capsulotomy. The breast is forcefully squeezed in the hopes that the capsule pops or tears. This is not often done because it could cause the implant to rupture and may void the manufacturer's warranty.
External ultrasound. May help reduce swelling and inflammation and does not involve any major risks.
Accolate. This anti-inflammatory used in the treatment of asthma has shown, in minor studies, to help regress capsular contracture. This is a relatively new and experimental treatment with no long-term statistical data.

Surgical

open capsulotomy. The capsule surrounding the implant is surgically cut open in order to release the implant. After this is done, however, there is a chance of contracture occurring again.
Open capsulectomy. This is generally the most successful, as well as the most intensive, form of treatment. The entire capsule is removed, allowing new tissue to form around the implant. In some cases, surgeons will change the implant placement: for example if the implant is placed above the muscle the surgeon may place it underneath the muscle during capsulectomy in the hopes of better results. ...Read more

Will breast implant removal relieve the pain from my implants? My implants cause me a lot of pain. If I have breast implant removal, will the pain go away? .

This: This will depend on what is causing your breast pain. If the pain is from a tight capsule or scar around the implant, called a capsular contracture, the answer is that there is a good chance it will help with discomfort. If your breasts are soft with the implants then we cannot be sure what is causing the pain and we be less likely to feel the pain would get better. I hope this helps.

If I'm having breast implant removal due to a reaction to the implants, does that mean I can't have different implants put in? I'm having a bad reaction to my implants and am scheduled for breast implant removal. Is it possible that I could have a differe

I: I have never encountered a true allergic reaction to breast implants.
If you are referring to capsular contracture of scar around your implants that can be dealt with by your surgeon.
Capsules surrounding any implant is a normal reaction in the body but occasionally women can develop contracture of that capsule making the breasts feel hard and distorting shape.
This is not an allergy to the implants.
This is not an autoimmune response to implants.
Current thought about capsular contracture is that because the breast has is own normal bacteria and the body can have changes in theses bacteria causing inflammation to occur.
Just like a change in normal bacteria can lead to a sire throat or diarrhea...

So complete removal of the capsule and new implants will need to happen to lower recurrence rates.
Placement of implants below the muscle also has been shown to lower these recurrence rates...
Some controversy regarding lower rates with textured implants exists.

Best of luck to you. ...Read more
