Docs. working for insurance a threat to children health. A doctor refuse referral my child for speech disorder, unless involve school. l don't agree?

Speech therapy: Honestly, I don't like the schools involved in the beginning for certain things, but sometimes it is not the doctor's fault. The insurance company has restrictions on what they consider to be medical reasons for speech therapy. We refer the patient and then when the insurance company won't pay, we get blamed! The school is responsible without a medical reason. There are many sides to every dilemma. ...Read more

What is the best possible way for a college student to juggle school, work, extracurricular act., volunteering, and social/family life all in one?

What is the best possible way for a college student to juggle school, work, extracurricular act., volunteering, and social/family life all in one?

Take it from Clint: One of Clint Eastwood's great lines is from the 1970's movie Magnum Force. At the end of the movie, just after his character Dirty Harry has taken out the last bad guy, he says, "A man's got to know his limitations." This applies to women as well. Also, be sure to plan well ahead, use a calendar all the time, and keep a buffer of time in case something takes longer than expected. ...Read more

Bullying happens in school, the work place, home, kids etc.. Is there a mental health diagnosis for why people bully others?

Bullying happens in school, the work place, home, kids etc.. Is there a mental health diagnosis for why people bully others?

Nonspecific: Bullying can be a final common pathway of behavior for a wide variety of reasons. There is no specific psychiatric diagnosis that matches bullying. Certainly things in such a person's history -- like being mistreated or abused at home -- may be a factor. But it's not an excuse, and bullying must be stopped. If the bully has been through trauma, s/he needs help as well as firm limit-setting. ...Read more

Counseling: Report to the campus counseling center. Depression in college is very common because of all the changes that ollege students have to go through adjusting from the impact of moving from their small towns or big cities or wherever else to college life, and stepping toward autonomy. It often represents too much change into short period of time. Counseling likely will be of benefit. ...Read more

Geriatrics md: how can nursing home refuse to share care plan with woman's child citing hipaa even before she moves in? Older nonmedical sib has poa.

HIPAA strictly: Demands that medical personnel do not discuss medical care issues with anyone but the person designated by the patient. It appears it is not you. Don't get mad at the nursing home, your beloved government came up with the rule. If they are ever found in contempt, the home is fined and potentially taken out of business. So there's that! ...Read more

Anxiety/ Phobia: Hopefully he has been evaluated by a child psychiatrist. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychoeducation of parents and child, school intervention, and medications, such as ssris ( 1st line tr); 2nd line-benzodiazepines for short term; 3rd line-- buspirone. If every thing fails antipsychotics may be useful in high levels of agitation. Cbt are the best supported interventions. Early tr improves prog. ...Read more

Specific Learning : Disorders (SLD) in reading, written expression & math occur in students with average or above-average IQ's. Ask your mom for copies of public school testing that made you eligible for Special Ed for SLD. Seek a neuropsychological evaluation to obtain academic supports from your college. My 2yr old is in a small family daycare we love,. His language &social skills are advanced. Does he need preschool or can we wait until pre-k?

Need? No...: It sounds like your son is in a loving environment. Children his age (and older) learn through play and connection. He doesn't "need" preschool. Read to him, talk to him, explain things to him, and most of all have fun! I bet he is already getting those things at the family daycare. My vote - if you are happy where he is there is no need to change. ...Read more

How to get child into private school without public school help, using my rights as parent because l believe my child has medica Issues, misdiagnosed?

Odd idea: You get into a private school by paying for the service, not making demands of the public system. Private schools are also not required to make any accommodations for kids with special needs, be they learning or medical.Public schools are required to make these accommodations. You need to meet with a representative of your local special services department and explore your available options. ...Read more

School paper: how does a disciplinary and or criminal record affect the ability to get into professional school/medical school?

Agree with answer: I spent 16 years on the admission committee of our local medical school. A felony will prevent a medical license. The law school has a committee that reviews backgrounds and would not recommend admission. This is the state of indiana. I doubt others are more liberal. I have read stories about a "reformed" prisoner who was then admitted to the bar. Ask your attorney general. ...Read more
