How long after possible ingestion of a sharp object that caused internal bleeding would you see symptoms? What would they be?

Consult a doctor: If you have swallowed a sharp object it could cause bleeding anywhere along your GI tract, from mouth to anus. This is a potentially serious event that should be evaluated and monitored properly. I would either consult your personal physician immediately or present yourself to an emergency room or both. Please seek proper medical attention. This is not the place.

Live your life: Take some Tylenol (acetaminophen) for your aches and pains but go about your life. Your mother is correct, any significant issue would have shown up by now.

How does asprin cause internal bleeding? Would there not be warning signs/symptoms before it was serious?

How does asprin cause internal bleeding? Would there not be warning signs/symptoms before it was serious?

Thins the blood: Aspirin interferes with the ability your blood to clot. It does this by interfering with the ability of your platelets to clot. The platelets are little cell like structures that help the blood clot. If their efficacy is interfered with they will not clot and bleeding occurs. It can also irritate the lining of the stomach and intestines which can also cause ulcers and bleeding.

How hard does a blow to the abdomen have to be to cause internal bleeding? How many hours before symptoms arise?

How hard does a blow to the abdomen have to be to cause internal bleeding? How many hours before symptoms arise?

It depends: Any abdominal trauma has the potential to injure your spleen or other viscera, and cause internal bleeding. That said, it generally takes a great deal of force to cause internal bleeding, such as from a car wreck or serious altercation. However, if you have a condition that gives you splenomegaly, it is much easier to be injured. This is a common problem with infectious mononucleosis.

After a heart cath, can I develop internal bleeding? And if so what symptoms would I likely have?

After a heart cath, can I develop internal bleeding? And if so what symptoms would I likely have?

Yes: If a heart cath. Was done through the femoral artery ("groin access"), the catheter is inserted very close to the abdominal cavity. If there is bleeding from the cath site, it may bleed into the abdomen/pelvis. This may result in back/abdominal pain, lightheadedness/dizziness from blood loss, and/or fast heart rate. If this is a concern, it requires prompt evaluation in your emergency dept.

How to stop internal bleeding other than surgery?

How to stop internal bleeding other than surgery?

Why risk life vs OR?: All methods are procedures: endoscopy might access some sources; interventional radiology and angiography might reach others. If bleeding internally, surgical access and resolution are most common approach--except in limited situations with solid organs (liver / spleen) after some traumas that are watched very closely for cessation. Good luck!

Could bright rectal bleeding be a symptom of chronic appendicites in a 21yo? Gone after surgery

Could bright rectal bleeding be a symptom of chronic appendicites in a 21yo? Gone after surgery

Probably not: Recovery from any surgery is variable with ups and downs. Resolution of bright red rectal bleeding is likely a coincidence as well as a benefit. If bleeding recurs, get an evaluation with your regular doc. Be well.
