Sharp pain in lower left abdomen, happened first time, its night and there is no doctor at this time. Anything I can do? I'm in very pain.
Seek help: If your pain is that severe you need someone to evaluate you to figure out what's going on, as it's otherwise impossible to suggest options for reducing pain without having a better understanding of what's going on. You may be able to lessen the pain with hot packs and reducing the tension in your abdominal wall (curling up). Again I would strongly advise an urgent eval if the pains severe. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Recently lifted something that was too heavy. Now have sharp pain in lower left abdomen. Doc said it was pulled muscle but its getting worse.?
Possible hernia: Your doctor is probably right--a "pulled muscle" may take days to heal, or may worsen if you repeat the behavior that caused the injury. Try a heating pad for this. However, hernias do occur, & may not be readily apparent on physical exam since there are so many different layers of abdominal wall. A ct scan of the abdomen may be helpful here for your reassurance. ...Read more

I have a sharp pain in my lower left abdomen but only when I cough. I have had a cough for just under 2 weeks and the pains only started a 2 days ago?
Hernia?: Sometimes coughing can cause a groin hernia. This can be painful, and is sometimes associated with a lump that is bigger when standing or coughing. This is usually in the crease of the groin near the public bone. If the pain is higher on the abdomen, it is unlikely to be a hernia. An exam by your primary care doctor can help sort this out.
