Intermittent High Blood Pressure Causes
Not "cause": In reality we do not KNOW the true cause of high blood pressure. We do know many things that will drive it up in a predisposed individual. Considering about 30% of population has HTN, it is fairly common. Smoking and/or any act that stresses the body or mind can drive BP up in someone wo already has HTN or is genetically "ripe" to develop HTN
A blood pressure reading has two numbers: a systolic blood pressure and a diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure the blood exerts on the vessels when the heart is beating. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the vessels in between heartbeats. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, begins when the systolic blood pressure remains above 140 or when the diastolic blood pressure remains above 90. Hypertension can be a result of increased blood flow through vessels or increased resistance to ...Read more
It should not: There are reports of Depakote causing high blood pressure in under 5% of people who take it. There are some smaller reports in about 2% of it causing low blood pressure. In general, there has been no significant reporting of bringing on high blood pressure when stopping it. The biggest concern is having seizures in those who were taking it for that reason.
Wake up in the morning with high blood pressure for about 10 minutes. Should I be worried about this? What causes it?
Hypertension: Hypertension is diagnosed when the basal (ie lowest) BP is consistently elevated. If you're normal throughout the day, I wouldn't give it another thought. When you sleep, you're not necessarily relaxed or at basal conditions. Sleep apnea should be considered/excluded. If you take BP meds, try shifting one to bedtime so it's still working in the morning.
I have high blood pressure, 148 or 142. I don't know what the cause is. Am I in danger of something if I don't stop my high blood pressure?
Can high blood pressure cause your hemoglobin to be high? Mine is 17? I was just put on meds last Friday for blood pressure. Do I need to be seen asap
Not the cause: There are many reasons for a minimally elevated hemoglobin. Hypertension alone is not one of them. Your work up can proceed at your convenience.
Ok so I had anxiety for some things and then I read online that anxiety causes high blood pressure and damages kidneyMybackhurtsbutbeen hurting before?
Unrelated: The kind of damage that hypertension does to kidneys takes many years to develop, and is painless.
Genetics/lifestyle: More than 90% of HTN is essential (primary) in nature. This implies that it occurs on its own. The remaining 5-10% is secondary htn, which means another primary medical problem is driving the high BP (example renovascular, endocrine, catecholamine-induced, sleep apnea). Essential HTN usually based on increased vasoconstriction. This is made worse by obesity, salt/alcohol intake, sedentary, .
Not directly: Carbonated beverages have been blamed for many health issues. However, there is no known direct cause and effect relationship between them and high blood pressure. Having said that, excessive intake will likely lead to weight gain and obesity increases your risk of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
Many: A better answer is what foods can reverse high blood pressure. This includes the dash diet: fruits: 4-5 servings/day vegetables: 4-5 servings/day whole grains or fiber: 6-8 servings/day dairy (low fat): 2-3 serving/day meat (lean): 2 servings/day lower dietary sodium intake low fat (<6% of daily calories) low cholesterol intake (<150 mg/day) low sodium intake (<2.4 grams/day).See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Anger and stress can increase BP temporarily, and chronic anxiety can do this long-term. Be worth seeing a licensed psychologist for advice on anger and stress. However, most people with high blood pressure also have a genetic background that means hypertension will not normalize with stress management. So drug therapy may well be needed too.
Mostly Genetics: The most common cause is called essential hypertension- 90% is of this type. This type is mostly from genetics. Some people are born with an inherent sensitivity to salt. So there is an environmental (diet, stress) component in some. Other causes include a narrowing of the arteries supplying the kidneys called renal artery stenosis. Other causes are hormonal, obesity/metabolic, or certain meds.
Blood pressure is a measurement of the force placed on the blood vessels and is comprised of the "systolic" pressure (the top number on a blood pressure meter) which is the peak pressure when the heart is pumping, and the "diastolic" pressure (the bottom number on a blood pressure meter) which is the pressure during the resting phase ...Read more
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) (Definition)
Also known as hypertension, high blood pressure occurs when blood pressure is 140/90 or higher. A systolic blood pressure (top number) is the pressure the blood exerts on the artery when the heart is at maximum contraction and a diastolic blood pressure (bottom number) is the pressure the blood exerts on the artery when the heart is at maximum relaxation. ...Read more
