Dx with parkinisons 2 years. Tremors, hemipalegia, dystonia in l foot. No arm swing on left side. Multiple meds with little improvement- suggestios?
COMPLEX: Not so sure this is simple parkinson's, and there may be a different underlying disorder here, especially in a female of your age. The lack of response to l-dopa is especially concerning. What kind of disorder causes drop foot, loss of balance, twitching, tremors, dizziness and can be completely cured by taking a benzodiazepine?
An anxiety disorder: Plus or minus conversion disorder can give you all the above symptoms--and I have seen several people with such presentations. You may want to treat with a good psychiatrist who can provide long-term treatment without resorting to benzodiazepines, though. Get Referred: If your doctors don't know what it is after all those tests, get referred to a specialty diagnostic hospital like Mayo clinic or Johns Hopkins and let them review your tests and see what else they can tell you.
