Any ideas why teething affects the immune system?

Any ideas why teething affects the immune system?

It really doesn't.: Teething is the process of teeth growing through the gums. It is a normal process, although the gum is tender while it's happening. However, children at 'teething' age often pick up common infections (colds, viruses, etc) so it is common for infants to be teething and have a viral infection at the same time. You build resistance by being exposed to infections, so older kids get sick less. ...Read more

I understand that drinking blood can be seriously unhealthy, but is the human digestive system capable of digesting blood?

Yes it can..: Blood composes of red + white cells, platelets, and proteins/minerals. The cells are basically proteins/lipids + some fluid/minerals, and the red cells contain heme/iron giving it the red appearance. Red/raw meats contain blood and your gut can digest it fine. How does the concept of empowerment relate to one's mental health?

That's a big one!: I can't do it justice here. A basic human need is a sense of agency, or "empowerment." We often act in problematic ways in search of this feeling, so learning to gain a sense of agency in healthy ways is important. Empowerment is particularly healthy when it boosts compassion for self and others. Ironically, we often must let go of our need for control to gain a sense of empowerment. ...Read more

Please help! what is the effect of genetically engineered (modified) food on human health?

None: The poison is in the behavior of the corporations and the protesters, not the technology, which has increased food yields and should belong to humankind, not jealously guarded by mean-minded profiteers. Despite the inflammatory rhetoric and claims, the scientific community -- the most cutthroat of truth-seekers -- has found no health dangers despite 30 years of close study. I've read stories about the lack of digestive enzyme affecting skin. I take a medicine lowering stomach acid and got dermatitis. Please comment.?

Less likely: You are probably taking a medication in the ppi group (proton pump inhibitors) such as prilosec, Prevacid etc. Or an h2-blocker such as zantac, (ranitidine) pepcid, and the like. Yes, they lower stomach acid production, but that has not been directly linked to any skin problems per se. You may be "allergic" to them and having skin reaction, which is a far more likely possibility. ...Read more
