Always works: Taking insulin will always work to lower your blood sugar. It is simply a matter of taking the correct amount. However, if you eat a poor diet that is high in sugars and carbs, you can "out eat" the effect of any medication for diabetes, including insulin. Diet and exercise are still the most important treatments for diabetes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It's really good.: Humalog (insulin lispro) is a brand of rapid-acting Insulin produced by eli lilly & co. Here in the usa. It is given at meals (or in an Insulin pump), to provide quick-onset action to control blood sugars at meals. There are a couple of other brands of rapid-acting Insulin on the market (novolog, apidra), but they all have about the same action. ...Read more
Depends: It would depend on several factors - overdose by how much, degree of Insulin resistance, blood sugar at time of overdose, patient's ability to detect low blood sugar and availability if food/drink to treat hypoglycemia. I've had patients take 50 units more than they should have (took wrong insulin) who survived unscathed. ...Read more

Congratulations: Great move. Well, NovoLog is quicker acting but also quicker getting out of your system. So make sure you eat as soon as you inject. As with any insulin, proper close titration is necessary to avoid hypoglycemia and wild fluctuations in your sugar levels. Overall, best short acting Insulin on the market at present, and the most physiologic. ...Read more

When is the optimal time for exercise for iddm using 100 units daily of both humalog (insulin lispro) and lantis?
Basal or Adj insulin: Best time is when only your basal Insulin is on board, to reduce risk of lows. If that doesn't fit ur schedule, u may have to take a negative correction for the dose of Humalog (insulin lispro) that precedes your exercise, ex. Cut down lunch Humalog (insulin lispro) if exercise at 1:30pm. The amt to reduce varies bet'n ppl; exercise, chk before and after so u know ur bg response, and can better guess how much Humalog (insulin lispro) to subtract. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I used to take lanolin insulin but the Dr now temp put me on humalog (insulin lispro) insulin. It is making my leg muscles cramp up many times a day.
Really hard: Hi. It's really hard to decipher what you're saying/asking. Is your A1c in the low 5s? Are you on Humalog (insulin lispro)? Humalog (insulin lispro) is essentially NEVER used as mono-therapy to treat diabetes. A1c in the low 5s would suggest your averaging a BG right around 100, and you would be at VERY high risk of hypoglycemia. You say stable blood sugar - good. But I'm doing a lot of guessing. Be safe, and good luck! ...Read more
