Sounds like type 2: Type 1 is caused by lack of Insulin and a high Insulin would be related to its treatment with insulin. In type 2 there is Insulin resistance and the pancreas is "told" to produce more of the hormone to "try to overcme the resistance". It is the major way in which types I and 2 are differentiated. ...Read more
Insulin: High endogenous insulin levels may be due to an insulin secreting tumor or spikes in blood sugar, but I don't think that exertion raises the insulin levels unless blood sugar rises. However if you have had problems with low blood sugar after exercise, consult an endocrinologist for evaluation and advice. ...Read more
Congenial hyperinsulintima on onset in adulthood? How is it diagnosed. I have had 12-22 insulin levels and high c-peptides while my glucose was 55-65.
High insulin levels: The most common cause of high insulin is insulin resistance, due to obesity, or a family history of type 2 diabetes where insulin resistance is hereditary. From your question, I am not sure what condition is being treated. Do those glucose levels cause you symptoms? See an Endocrinologist. An inappropriately high insulin with low glucose could be from an insulinoma, although this is rare. ...Read more
Not fasting: Most common reason for high insulin is a non-fasting state. If one is fasting at time of blood draw, then high insulin is worrisome for insulin resistant state or pre-diabetes. In this case, A1c might be useful to further assess glycemic (sugar) control. Assuming good kidney function, metformin would be useful in treating those w/insulin resistance. Should also check blood pressure & cholesterol 2 ...Read more
Hi doctor, I found out recently that iam having high insulin level in my body, so what all precautions should I take?

I am a diabetic and on insulin I am also HIV + why is it that when I take insulin, bm levels are high but when I skip insulin bm levels become normal?
Has nothing to do...:
but high numbers with Insulin and when you skip Insulin bm levels become normal, suggests your on too much Insulin which sends sugars too low- brain sees low sugar, tells liver to make sugar eg: rebounds sugar to too high levels
you likely need less insulin
must talk to md who understands this- if necessary, see endocrinologist. ...Read more
My doc says my insulin levels are too high. I am constantly urinating even at night. Hands keep swelling. What should I do.
Is that your doctor': Opinion or a lab result? Insulin levels are generally inaccurate when sent to a conventional clinical laboratory, and are most often useless anyway for clinical medicine. If you're overweight, your insulin levels may be high due to insulin resistance, which resolves with weight loss. The other symptoms are separate. Maybe you need a second opinion? ...Read more
Insulin resistance.: High blood sugar will cause Insulin levels to rise, but I suspect you are referring to Insulin resistance. This is a phenomena in which your muscle cells have reduced sensitivity to insulin. This results in higher blood levels of Insulin for any given level of blood sugar as compared to those without Insulin resistance. ...Read more
Gestational diabetes: If you have gestational diabetes, the high glucose levels in your blood makes the unborn baby respond by increasing his own Insulin in order to keep the glucose at bay. Once the baby is born, and he is not in that "high sugar" environment, his insulin, being high before birth may make his own glucose drop. Nurseries are well equiped to deal with this. ...Read more

Insulin resistance: Normal sugars don't rule out Insulin resistance, because as long as the pancreas can make enough Insulin to overcome the resistance, sugars will stay normal. Pre or type 2 DM: The most common cause of high Insulin levels and low blood sugars in adults is Insulin resistance/hyperinsulinemia. Those with pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes have high Insulin levels to compensate for the body's resistance. However, the body loses its ability to guage how much Insulin one needs and can overshoot to cause low blood sugar. Please discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Not like high,,: Low Insulin causes glucose levels to stay high or rise which means the glucose can't get into the cells and serve as nourishment. This is seen in type I diabetes (no insulin) and in type ii diabetes (insulin resistance). This means that the body's fat and later muscle reserves are used. However, if there is too much, like in an insulinoma, hypoglycemia can rapidly result causing coma and death. ...Read more
