Insect Bite Rash
Is it true that petroleum jelly is good to minimize scars from insect bites, rash and open wounds?
It's OK: Wounds heal best when kept moist and vaseline is a good moisturizer. However, there may be products more appropriate for specific wounds. For example, wounds with a heavy bacterial load may do better with an antibiotic cream such as silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) while insect bites might need an antipuritic/antiinflammatant agent. Your doctor should be able to help you make individualized choices. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Insect bites are from mosquitos, spiders, flies, ticks, and other species that use their mandibles (jaws) to attach to a person or other animal. Other insect species, like bees, yellow jackets, wasps, hornets and fire ants actually inject venom into their prey and can not only cause localized pain and swelling, but severe, acute allergic reactions in ...Read more
My 2+ year old has been having running nose for at least 3 mths. He has bouts of insect bite or rashes i can't differentiate. How to diagnose & cure?
Allergies: I suspect it's allergies. If it's clear drainage and if he has associated allergy symptoms like sneezing, red itchy eyes then allergic rhinitis is likely the cause of his runny nose. If you haven't seen an insect bite him and in particular if this is a recurrent rash it's unlikely to be an insect bite. Eczema or allergic dermatitis are commonly associated conditions. See your pediatrician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

If the rash is isolated to the area where the ring touches your skin then it is most likely an allergic reaction. If you have similar looking rashes other areas, possibly other causes and would need to be evaluated. ...Read more

Won't prevent scar: But it will soften the area and help make it less noticeable. On holiday in turkey and my leg is developing burn like rashes that were originally insect bites. They are not itchy or painful to touch, just ugly.
OK,...: Tough to know what this exactly without an exam. Sounds like a progression of the healing process, and hopefully you will not acquire scars form the bites moving forward. Try no to itch them or pick at them as that wold increase risk of infection and scarring. See Dr. if you feel they are not improving. ...Read more
