Inner Ear Problems After Flying
Balance problems shortly after coping weeks of randomly plugged or unplugged ear... No excessive wax inside. ?
Balance: The fluid in the inner ear often controls balance. It is not uncommon to suffer from balance issues after having ear infections or 'clogged/plugged' ears. These symptoms can persist, and if they are present for too long, you should see an ENT (Ear/Nose/Throat) doctor to have it checked out. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

It also refers to the part of the ear that assists in the regulation of balance. The inner ear includes the cochlea (hearing) and ...Read more

I have middle ear fluid, chronic tinnitus, hearing difficulties, ear fullness and severe balance issues. Would myringotomy tubes or hearing aids help?
Brief episodes of vertigo, ear fullness, ear ache, and pulsatile tinnitus in left ear for two months (started after a cold with bronchitis). Also, conductive hearing loss in left ear. Outer ear and tympanic membrane look fine. Neur. exam. fine.
Meniere's disease?: Are you having headaches as well? With vertigo, hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears perhaps??) you've described 3/4 symptoms of Ménière's disease, the only last symptom being headaches on the side of the hearing loss and ringing in the ear. You'd need an MRI to know that the inner ears and brain in general look OK. Treatment for this is challenging. ...Read more
Can a hole in the ear drum cause frequent ear infections? Ear was fine till ruptured and had 4-5 infections in 6mnths in same ear as hole
I suspect I have an ear wax blockage in both ears. I'm having tinnitus along with fullness & an ear ache. Will the tinnitus go away after cleaning?
Eardrum issues: A hole in the eardrum is usually , in a child, due to an infection that caused the eardrum to "burst" which alleviates the pain and allows the pus behind the drum to drain. Children have "tubes" put in their ears surgically to do the same thing- i.e. allow drainage. the recovery time after surgery is minimal- its day surgery and they are fine ...Read more

Shooting ear pain within hours of touching each ear on separate occasions. Ear exam was fine. Fullness and tinnitus persist 2 months. Likely cause?
Likely unrelated: I am unable to draw any correlation between what you describe as "touching each ear" followed hours later by sharp pains. There is truly nothing neurological that I am aware does that sort of thing simply based upon the protracted delay between stimulus and response. However, if an ear exam does not reveal any problems have imaging studies of the IAC been done? Of the brain and temporal lobes? ...Read more
Tinnitus in left ear decided to use ear drops. 9 days later ear full of wax after pulling out the goo , still ringing ear still blocked :-( syringe?
Syringe may help: They sell cleaning kits for ears in the pharmacies which have large syringes. I always advise to use warm soapy water for these types of cleanings. At the same time, I advise caution when doing anything with the ear canal & if you're not sure of what you are doing or if things are going the right way then you should stop and see your doctor. Much better that than to cause any sort of complication. ...Read more

Painful: You "can" but it might be very painful with the pressure changes your ears will go thru. Normally when pressure changes, your ear adjusts to it, but if you have an ear infection this system of "adjustment" is not working. Try to postpone. If you can't, at least use specialized ear plugs for air travel (not sure how effective they will be). Good luck. ...Read more
