Possibly sty: You may have a sty or blocked oil gland of the eyelash (gland of zeiss) that is secondarily inflamed or infected. Try mod. Hot compresses 2-4 times/day for about 10' followed by gentle massage with diluted baby shampoo on a clean washcloth. This should help it resolve in about 7-10 days. A bite or particle: Sudden itching and swelling of one eye is almost always caused by contact with an irritant or allergen. If you see evidence of a bite on the skin, or a particle or insect inside your eye, then you know the cause, but more often than not we cannot figure out the cause. A cool or ice compress should help. Allergens include plant or animal particles on the hands, or even new laundry soap.
You may have: Allergic conjunctivitis. You could try using clarifying along with artificial tears to see if that relieves your symptoms. It would be best to have a physician examine you. There are very effective treatments for this issue. You need a definitive diagnosis and then a comprehensive plan. Best of luck! Thank you for trusting Health Tap.See 1 more doctor answer
A few possibilities: This could be due to allergies, dry eyes, or eye infections. All can start or affect 1 eye first. The treatments are very different. For allergies, zaditor (ketotifen) is a good otc eye medicine. For dry eyes, lubricating tears are necessary. For infection, usually of the eyelids, start with eyelid warm compress and diluted baby shampoo scrubs. You should have a baseline exam with your eye doctor.See 2 more doctor answers
Allergies in the eye: It sounds like you're suffering from allergies in the eye with your symptoms of itching, redness and bumps on the lid. You can try using over-the-counter Zaditor, (ketotifen) artificial tears and cold compresses. If this does not improve then you should see an eye care provider. Also if you do suffer from allergies treating them systemically can help to. Good luck!See 2 more doctor answers
My eyes are swollen and itchy, and my neck is itchy. Any ideas what this could be from? I haven't changed anything in my daily routine.
For the past 3 days I have noticed under my eyes it was swollen and itchy. At times it would even get flaky. Is it an allergic reaction?
Itchy eyes I am having itchy eyes followed with swelling and remaining swollen for a day or two. Also big bags under the eyes. What could it be?
I was preparing a lot of different foods for a big party at my house & my face starting getting itchy & blotchy. One of my eyes is swollen & runny.
Allergy: With so many different foods it may be difficult to determine the culprit but the blotchy and itchy rash along with swelling suggests an allergic type reaction. Try to make a list of things you were incontact with while it is still fresh and then go for allergy testing. Continue the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and get help if it gets worse this can be life threatening.
See your eye doctor.: Best to see your eye doctor to determine the cause. It could be from an insect bite, or allergic or infectious. The treatment would be determined by the cause. Generally cold or hot compresses depending on the cause, anti-allergic drops and possibly oral anti-allergic medication (antihistamine) for an allergy or insect bite, antibiotic drops without oral antibiotics for an infection.
See below: Most likely allergies.I would try otc zatidor.
Allergies: Patients with allergies can develop scaly, red and itchy skin around the eyes and on the eyelids from allergies. This skin condition is called allergic dermatitis or allergic eczema. You can use a hypoallergenic cream/lotion: cetaphil or lubriderm and consider contacting your medical doctor about taking allergy pills-such as Claritin (loratadine) or allegra.
EYES: Allergic conjunctivitis or infectious conjunctivitis. I would suspect the first one. You could try over the counter Patanol (olopatadine) which is used to treat allergic conjunctivitis. Consider getting rid of down pillows. Cat and dog dander can often be the cause. Wash your sheets weekly.See 1 more doctor answer
