I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010 (open repair)if I have scar tissue around spermatic cord. Will I feel pain all the time or just when ejaculate?
You may: Pain after any hernia operation is common though it usually resolves in a few months. Scarring of the cord or cremaster muscles is probably causing this. Repeating surgery usually doesn't solve this. Steroid injection treatments may help. Applying heat or a hot bath may help. With time, this usually becomes less of an issue. If you feel a mass or bulge that comes and goes, see the surgeon. ...Read more
How long does it take to recover from inguinal hernia surgery? I’m having surgery to repair an inguinal hernia. What is the recovery like? How long before I can lift and carry things again?
There: There are several different ways to repair an inguinal hernia. A traditional repair involves an incision over the area of the hernia and the placement of a plastic mesh material to plug or cover the defect. Alternatively, your surgeon may perform a laparoscopic hernia repair which involves making a few incisions near your navel and placing mesh in front of the hernia. Generally, the recovery from a laparoscopic hernia repair is shorter and involves less pain. One can usually return to regular activities within a few days to a week. Traditional hernia repairs usually require a longer recovery (3-5 weeks) but can be performed under local anesthetic meaning the patient does not have to have a full general anesthetic. This is beneficial for some patients who may not tolerate general anesthesia. You should speak with your surgeon about all your options as every patient has unique conditions which may influence how the surgeon may recommend proceeding. ...Read more
M28, could sneezing and coughing 50 days after surgery cause to recur hernia (note it was large inguinal hernia, repaired with mesh in open style)?
Yes, it's possible: Anything that will raise the pressure in the abdomen can exert the same pressure on a hernia and cause it to recur, despite having just had a repair. While 50 days is right within the threshold of regaining maximal tissue strength, hernia repairs can fail at anytime. Even months or years later. Have your surgeon re-evaluate. ...Read more

Office job hernia:
Yes. I would let you return to work 3 days following hernia repair. I generally tell patients not to drive until they are pain free and feel that they can stomp their feet on the floor, so that they would be able to safely apply brakes in an emergency if needed.
You may need to have someone drive you to work for the first few days you go back to work. ...Read more
I had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) in 2010.I want to know if nerves are trapped during hernia surgery how this problem can be resolved?
Ilioinguinal nerve: It is possible that a nerve in the area (ilioinguinal) is giving you trouble. Other nerves may be involved. Other options include hernia recurrence (sometimes can't feel on outside) or routine strain injuries to name a few. A surgeon can inject anesthetic at a certain area where the ilioinguinal nerve runs (near ASIS) to see if it is an issue. If it is, part of nerve may be removed to help. ...Read more
I had open mesh inguinal hernia surgery 4 weeks ago. When erect, penis is anchored by cord from repair to base of penis and around, very restrictive, ?
Peyronie's disease?: Inguinal hernia repair does not involve the erectile elements of the penis. I would consider seeing a urologist if it is persistent or progressive. Of course, talk to your surgeon first. ...Read more

See a Urologist: It is very unlikely that the hernia operation has anything to do with your feelings after ejaculation. A urologist may be able to treat this with medication and can also check to see if you have another hernia, but a recurrent hernia is unlikely in a young person just a few years later. ...Read more

I had left inguinal hernia surgery (open repair without mesh) in 2010. I feel pain at surgical side only when I ejaculate. What could be the reason?
Spermatic cord: The spermatic cord may be compressed. This structure carries sperm from the testicle to the prostate, and travels through the area of the hernia repair. I had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair with mesh) in 2010.I feel pain in surgical side when I ejaculate. My MRI report is normal. What to do?
See a urologist: A urologist can possibly help to get to a diagnosis. I had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) in 2010.I feel pain at surgical when I ejaculate. How can find out if scar tissue tissue is the problem?
Surgery: This sounds as if scar has formed around the repair. The vas, blood vessels and nerves can be trapped in the scar tissue and cause pain. The only way to know for sure is to go in and take a look. This can fix it but it can also make it worse. Some times injections can help, but removing the scar is the way to go then hope that the scar doesn't recur. Talk to your surgeon. ...Read more

I had a left inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) with mesh. I wanna know if spermatic cord is scarred into the mesh will it appear in MRI scan?
No it won't: You are concerned about patency of your vas deferens. Lumen of vas is normally closed all the time except for passage of sperm. This lumen can not be seen on mri. Best first step to find out if one or both vas is/are patent is by semenalysis. I personally share your concern about wisdom of hernia inguinal repairs with mesh in young men. Of course there will be cases where it is the best technique. ...Read more
