I looked and it doesn't seem like there's an ingrown toenail at all, or any kind of swelling. So why does my toe hurt?

Many reasons. : Could still be an incurvated toenail, or you could have sprained or broken it stubbing it on furniture. If more than one toe hurts, see a podiatrist, pcp, or rheumatologist (or even a neurologist) to rule out arthritis, systemic conditions, neuropathy, or other issues. ...Read more

Ingrown toe nail taken out 6 days ago. Still in major pain. Could this be nerve damage? Keep taking norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) or 800 motrin every 4 hours is that ok?

No: Most permenant ingrown procedures are performed utilizing a weak acid (Phenol) to kill the nail root. it is not uncommon to get a phenol burn that is more painful than average. You should not be utilzing Narco and Motrin at this late date. And the Motrin should be q 8 hrs. Call your Doc, I would rcommend soaking in Epsolm salts and f/u woth Cotisporin otic drops on toe not ear. Amerigel works well ...Read more

I have an ingrown toe nail, my pedicurist told me to leave it without cutting for a year or so & it will correct itself. Is that true?

Whaaaaa?: Send back to pedicurist school, nail would only be about, oh, 5' long, hope you like open-toed shoes. Do need to let it grow out, so end of nail makes it to end of toe (& can't 'dive' into skin. Then be careful to get all of nail when cut it in future & try to keep it pretty straight across for several months. If continues to be problem, may need to see your dr or a podiatrist for help with it. ...Read more

Infection: Was the nail edge just cut out, or was it also cauterized to prevent regrowth? The latter can be red and drain for several weeks. The alternative is infection. Either way, the best course is to contact the doctor that treated it initially, have it evaluated and let that doctor decide whether antibiotics are appropriate. ...Read more
