Do nothing or...: How do these ingrown hairs or pimples hurt you? If no or not much and bearable, do nothing but applying steroid cream thinly may help to ease discomfort. Folliculitis: Sounds like it could indeed be an 'ingrown' hair or a localized folliculitis. Important other information could be obtained with further questioning - esp. regarding any recent sexual activity, as STDs would also be on the list if you've had sex with any new partner(s). See below: sounds like you have folliculitis (an infected hair follicle). It will usually resolve after it drains, which it sounds like it has. If the redness expands or does not go away see a physician as you might need antibiotics. Simple things like sitting in a warm bath sometimes allow the pus to drain more readily.
