Could ingrown hair lead to a swollen face?

Yes

It sounds like you have cellilitis which is an infectious and inflammatory condition that should be evaluated and treated with antibiotics

Ingrown_hair
this sounds like you may have created an infection in the area and a call to your doctor or perhaps a simple visit will save you an ER trip. If it is extremely swollen and very painful may want to seek an urgent care or ER to avoid cellulitis which is a very serious infection.

I have what seems to be a bug bite that has swollen or it could be an ingrown hair, on the inside right cheek of my buttons. Should I lance it?

Avoid lancing it...

Head-cheek
Depending on the size, if it's a pimple, then warm compresses will hastens its drainage. Aniy larger, it would be more prudent to see a healthcare professional to have it drained.

Dr. Michael Miller answered:

Having swollen painful lymph nodes in groin because ingrown hair. How to treat this?

Monitoring Centers

Carotid_arteries
Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph Nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well

I have what I believed was an ingrown hair but now it has swollen, turned red and it drained to what looks like a huge empty hair follicle!Cellulitis?

Cellulitis

Cellulitis
It sounds like you may have had a furuncle (AKA boil or abscess). Now that it has drained, you are left with an abscess pocket. You also may have secondary cellulitis (infection of the skin). You should see your doctor. Why? To screen you for MRSA, to treat your cellulitis and to DECOLONIZE you for MRSA.

I have sore on back of scalp that I think started as ingrown hair. I picked at it and now its swollen an very sore. What can help it. Thanks?

Warm soaks

Ingrown_hair
Apply warm-water soaks 2-3 times a day, and it should resolve if you don't pick at it any more. If it doesn't, you'll have to see your doctor or a dermatologist to have it drained, and if necessary, get a prescription for an antibiotic. And let that be a lesson! As I tell my patients all the time, your skin is not on strike, you don't have to pick it. (Get it? :-))

How do I treat the wound from ingrown hair so that it will not recur? There seems to be an infection because the area where hair is supposed to grow is swollen first and has pus with blood

In grown hair

Foreign_body
Removing the offending object (which acts as a foreign body - in this case the hair) helps a wound heal. The best way to avoid recurrence is to use proper shaving techniques to avoid the hair growing inward.

It sounds as though your ingrown hair became infected and turned into a boil. Boils usually start out as tender, red areas which become hard and then eventually develop a "head" of white pus. Once this drains, the area usually heals on its own. Most of these are caused by Staphylococcus Aureas, a common bacteria found on the skin. Occasionally, however, the can be caused by MRSA, the antibiotic resistent kind of staph bacteria. Next time you develop one of these infections, start out by applying warm compresses to the area to help draw the infection out. Then, you should see your doctor so that they can drain it, test for what bacteria is causing it and be able to treat you appropriately - sometimes with antibiotics, sometimes just with drainage. If you ever develop fever, chills, or feel ill with this infection, call your doctor immediately. Also, spreading redness and swelling around the area means the infection is worsening and you may need antibiotics. You can try and prevent these infections by practicing good hygiene and using anti-bacterial soaps. Your doctor may have other suggestions for prevention.
