Found 3 red bumps near the bottom of my labia majora. They don't hurt and they aren't clustered together. herpes or ingrown hairs? I shaved a week ago

Probably not herpes: Herpes is unlikely to first present with "3 red bumps". The initial infection usually is more severe thatn this. And within 7 days recurrent herpes would go from red bumps to blisters or open sores or scabs. If the bumps are in an area where you shave, folliculitis (hair follicle inflammation, ingrown hairs) is a good bet. See a doctor if they persist or if you remain concerned. ...Read more

Antibiotics?: You'll probably need antibiotics and depending on the size of the boil possibly an incision and drainage. Don't wait to get help, sometimes these can spread "down there" very fast and be life threatening....especially if you are a diabetic. Go see your doctor and you'll be OK. ...Read more

I am prone to get razor bumps and ingrown hairs when i shave down there. How often should I shave and how should I do it?

Insure that you use: Fresh sharp blades vice dull blades. If the hair is more than several mm long – then trim it before shaving it. Wash the area before shaving – warm water can help to soften the hairs. Use a lubricant when shaving. Avoid using products that contain alcohol or are scented. Shave in the direction of the hair – not against it. Be gentle when shaving – don’t push down too hard. Don't shave too often. ...Read more

Various: At times, these hair follicles may get infected. This is folliculitis. If folliculitis is mild, topical over-the-counter antibiotic will work (polysporin, neosporin or bacitracin) 2-3 times/day. Topical Hydrocortisone will also help. If very tender, you may need brief oral antibiotics, and let it heal before shaving again. Always shave with the direction of hair growth, & try aloe vera after. ...Read more
