Too short.: Most ingrown nails are a direct consequence to inappropriate trimming of the nails. Cutting the nails too short is a typical finding when treating patients with ingrown nails. I suggest you begin there.

Possibilities: Possibly from micro trauma such as shoe pressure: especially if you are active. Can also be fungus. How long have you noticed this. If it just appeared suddenly, more likely to be from low grade trauma. If this is not the case, or if this fails to grow out as time goes on, see podiatrist.

Any color to it: Does it have any color to it? Is it black or is it just indented? It may be what is know of onycholysis, which is splitting of the nail. Could be caused by repeated trauma to the area. If you are worried have a podiatrist check it out as a simple biopsy may reveal what you have.

A week ago I noticed a dark/blackish area under my pinky toe cuticle. The nail itself appears to be flaking. I don't remember injuring this area. ALM?

Varies: There are multie potential causes, I would not hesitate to be seen. Fungal infection, occult trauma, or a pressure phenomena are among the more common causes. An exam would likely reveal the most likely diagnosis.

Toe cuticle part is black with the blood that stayed there & it also hurts & tingles when I put pressure on it since Memorial Day. Slammed by car door?

Toe cuticle part is black with the blood that stayed there & it also hurts & tingles when I put pressure on it since Memorial Day. Slammed by car door?

Toetal Pain.: Well it sounds like there is moderate damage to at least some soft tissue. Questions remain, however, whether or not the nail root or any of the toe bones are also damaged. The black discoloration will remain for sometime and by dissolving or by sliding out as the nail grows. You may or may not loose the nail, only time will tell. If the root was damaged the nail may become distorted. X-ray for FX

Many things: Without seeing it, its difficult to give an accurate diagnosis. It could be a corn, caused by underlying bony abnormality or soft tissue tumors i, e wart...You should see a podiatrist for further evaluation and treatment options.

Toe nail injury: Would go to ER/ urgent or follow up with podiatrist. Nails take a long time to heal, months. But you need to follow up today to prevent total loss and or infection.

My toe nail hurts by the cuticle and left side&is red &swollen. It is also lifting some.

No good e-nail cure.: Sounds like you have the fixings of an ingrown toenail. There is more than one way to treat this condition, either with or without surgery. A doctor, familiar with toe problems, will be able to provide you with all the details. These conditions can get out of hand quickly so it is best to have it examined.

I would rec that-: -U C a podiatrist so it is done correctly. U may really make a mess of things if U try 2 do it Urself, even if U get an answer that tells U how 2 do it Urself.

Toenail is disconnected from root and lifting at cuticle, after ingrown infection. Will I need the rest of the nail removed or will it fall off?

Toenail is disconnected from root and lifting at cuticle, after ingrown infection. Will I need the rest of the nail removed or will it fall off?

It is: Best to have the nail removed to allow growth of a healthy new nail HOWEVER this is the decision of a plastic (hand) specialist if you want the best result! My opinion only Hope it helps! Dr Z

A can fell on my big toe lac is nail to cuticle. Cleaned and bandaged. Dr said X-ray shows chip in bone. Should I consult specialist or just heal?

Chip off the old....: There is no harm in seeing a specialist. Depending on the location and size of the chip, it might just be possible to use a splintage technique to minimize potential problems from the loose chip. Splinting may even increase the chances of the chip's ability to heal back on.

Big toe at the cutical is redish n puffy just sterilized needle n popped it n yellowish pus oozed from under my cuticle can I take care without a doc?

Probably so: This is likely something called paronychia. Once the pus has drained then keep it clean and it generally solves on its own. If it lingers or worsens then you should see your primary care doctor.

Sudden onset of throbbing, swelling and pain around the cuticle and sides of toenail. I do have fungus under the nail…never been this painful. Ingrown?

Sudden onset of throbbing, swelling and pain around the cuticle and sides of toenail. I do have fungus under the nail…never been this painful. Ingrown?

Yikes.: It sounds like your toe is definitely inflamed, possibly infected and potentially ingrown. Best thing to do is have it examined to determine your problem and the proper treatment. The fungus under the nail could be a contributing factor in your problem.

Diabetes and feet: There is no way an online review can tell you what you need to know. Yes, your risk of bleeding and infection is higher than average due to the diabetes and plavix, (clopidogrel) but you need to now judge whether this is just a minor injury or something to see your doctor about right away.

Neuropathy of foot. Just noticed a toenail peeling up from toe at cuticle. No pain until today. What could it be? I don't see discoloring at all.

Neuropathy of foot. Just noticed a toenail peeling up from toe at cuticle. No pain until today. What could it be? I don't see discoloring at all.

Don't ignore it: This may be very benign but since you have neuropathy there can be something going on deeper under the nail. Go see a Podiatrist.
