Why do I get ingrown hairs on my head?

Why do I get ingrown hairs on my head?

No ingrown hair: There is no ingrown hair per se. It's a misconception that people feed on. What you have is inflammation of the hair folicule (sac) that is known as boil or medically as forunculitis. Why you get it is a good question. It indicates that local immune response is impaired. That can be seen in people with diabetes, psoriasis, or other systemic or local causes. Often no cause can be determined.

Gott see it.: Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, sometimes a quick look is all that is needed. Given the information we have, a quick look by someone with medical knowledge would be better.

Cyst: Simple cysts can appear when the fluid of a hair follicle becomes trapped. As the fluid builds up it creates a soft mass. Squeezing it can release the fluid. If it is foul odor then this may be a sebacous cyst. Cysts recur and can become infected. A simple procedure in your doctors office can remove it.

How do I get rid of ingrown hairs? I have it on the back of my head for a while now.

How do I get rid of ingrown hairs? I have it on the back of my head for a while now.

Ingrown hairs: This is a common problem in some races. The most practical way is to let the hair grow long. Then the curled ends can't pierce thru the follicle or back into the skin. Often you need to be on an antibiotic to treat the folliculitis until the hair grows sufficiently. Go see your dermatologist. There are other treatments such as laser available for some people as well.

I have an achy bump on the back of my head, right under the base of my skull; fells kinda like an ingrown hair. What do you think?

Possible: It is possibly an ingrown hair or other small pimple, but it could also be eczema, or even psoriasis. There are many possibilities. If it persists for longer than a few weeks, you might want to have it looked at.

I have one red bump on my inner thigh that hurts when I touch it. Is it some kind of bite or ingrown hair? No pus or head to it. What is it or to do?

Bump: An inflamed cyst from bacteria in the hair follicle may not show a "pus head" but rather show redness, tenderness, due to inflammation or infection deep in the skin. See a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Sounds like it: If this is around a hair follicle it is called folliculitis. It will respond to drainage but may require an antibiotic to treat. If it worsens, see your doctor as these can sometimes progress to a full blown abscess.

I believe I have a ingrown hair on the lip of my vagina, I did just shave last week, it has a little bit of a white head, and there is only one?

I believe I have a ingrown hair on the lip of my vagina, I did just shave last week, it has a little bit of a white head, and there is only one?

Sounds right: This is not uncommon. Try warm smokes in the bathtub to draw out the infection. If this does not clear it up you will need an antibiotic. In the future make sure you shave in one direction, use plenty of lubricant such as shaking cream and do not use an old razor blade. If that doesn't help then you can try waxing or laser hair removal if you want to continue this grooming style.
