Ingredients In Cymbalta
Why hasn't viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) taken off as the new branded blockbuster drug..Such as lexapro, cymbalta etc./is it about side effects-effectiveness-insurance cov.
Slow marketing: I believe the reason has been somewhat slow marketing and releasing it before proving that it also has effectiveness in anxiety as well. Some of the initial side effects needs to be overcome by taking the initial starter packet and using two of them instead of one so that the upward taper occurs less aggressively. The harder it is to get patient and physician compliance, the harder it is to sell. ...Read more
Could amino acids in chia seeds and raw honey lessen the effects of 30 mg Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) xr? Are there any other known interactions between these items?
No: There are no interactions between chia seeds, raw honey, and adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). Chia seeds are known especially for their omega-3 fat content. They also contain 20% protein (made up of amino acids), but this isn't very digestible unless you grind the seeds first. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Are toporol, its generic - metropol recalled.
Also is buproprion and budepropian the same and both recalled?
Budeprione recalled: I'm not certain about metropolol, but budeprion xl, which is the generic (made by teva) of wellbutrin (bupropion) xl was recently recalled because it failed to meet the fda standards for effectiveness of the original, brand name drug. Generics of long acting forms of meds seem to be harder to duplicate than short acting ones. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Bought some amino acid pills. Amongst ingredients is 38mg l-tryptophan. I also take 15mg lexapro (escitalopram). Will this cause any issues?
Don't do it: There is no data looking at taking wellbutrin (bupropion) with an overthecounter supplement. Neutraceuticals like shredz do not tell the exact amounts of ingredients b/c they are not monitored by the fda. It does contain caffeine and green tea extract which can act as a stimulant of the central nervous system. Thus shredz combined with stimulation from wellbutrin (bupropion) may cause increased anxiety and insomnia. ...Read more
Any interaction between using the herbs valerian roots and borago and taking antidepressants venlafaxine 37.5 (modified release) and risperidone?
Don't mix meds: Even though i specialize in natural medicine I do not have patients mix natural and pharmaceutical meds unless it is clear that there is no negative interaction. You are talking about two types of mood disorder treatments and i suggest that you do not mix them. One or the other, with guidance from a professional, is best. ...Read more
Does Brintellix in combination with Ritalin (methylphenidate) cause excitotoxicity because AFAIK they both increase glutamate levels in the brain.
Doses: need to be taken into account. At high doses, both medicines can cause behavioral excitement. This shouldn't be a clinical concern, assuming proper management, unless one has bipolar disorder. However, glutamate is not a primary target neurotransmitter. Generally, drug interaction concerns are often best managed by the prescriber, since individual differences in pharmacokinets are significant. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can i consume Hemp seeds as a dietary supplement while on Prozac (fluoxetine) 40mg daily? Hemp seeds seem to contain negligible amounts of tryptophan
No problem: Just about every protein food contains tryptophan, some more than others (such as dairy and turkey). There is absolutely no reason to avoid those foods while on Prozac (fluoxetine). There is a big difference between taking large amounts of Tryptophan as a supplement and having the amounts that occur in food. Hemp seeds is among the healthiest foods one can eat. ...Read more
Close monitoring: Anafranil (clomipramine) is tricky in heart patients - it can prolong the qt interval, induce serious arrhythmias, increase the risk of heart attack and sudden death. Let your doctor guide you. If you have a normal ekg and are stable, it can be used safely. Like everything in medicine (and life), it's a judgement call and the risks and benefits should be weighed. ...Read more
What chemical properties and mechanisms of action make Prozac (fluoxetine) more "stimulating" than other anti-depressant drugs in the same class?
Serotonin 2C: The agonist activity of fluoxetine at 5ht2c receptors likely explains some of the positive and negative stimulating aspects of treatment with fluoxetine in terms of appetite, activation and anxiety etc. However everyone is different and "your results may vary ". Fluoxetine is not "stimulating" for everyone. ...Read more
