Infrequent Bowel Movements
I have had infrequent bowel movements for the past year. I've tried fibre, laxatives, Metamucil.. But it doesn't help me. What do I do ?
Miralax: constipation is common and a frustrating symptoms it is defined by more than just frequency of stools. if stools are not hard and no straining than going several days is not the issue. if you have symptoms though I would try miralax (its otc), plenty of water and regular exercise. ...Read more

Maybe not related...: "Transfer dysphagia" is a problem moving the food bolus from your mouth to the top of the esophagus; "transit dysphagia" is a problem transiting the food down the esophagus. Motility studies (modified barium swallow; esophageal manometry) may be helpful in identifying pathology or spasm. Blood in stool: The combination of blood in the stool with accompanying mucus is possibly suggestive of some form of inflammation of the colon, or colitis. Add water to diet: You may have the fiber, but you need to increase water/flluid intake otherwise the fiber will bulk up stool too much. Yes & No: You are still young to have serious intestinal problem like cancer. Most rectal bleeding for young people is from hemorrhoids. If you are constipated, take some laxatives or stool softeners. But you should still see your dr and be referred to a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy to be checked for the above. A change for you?: If it is a change in your usual bowel habit, can not be definitely related to diet change, and especially if associated with other symptoms, e.g. Pain, nausea, lightheadedness, cramps, bleeding, fever, sweats, etc. Definitely call your doc.
