Strep: It is entirely possible to have strep throat after the flu. One does not exclude the other. I recommend consulting with your doctor to see if you actually do have strep throat. If you do, it will require antibiotic in order to resolve. ...Read more

However swelling is unusual although not impossible since hives and swelling are often based on similar mechanism just occurring at different sites.
