The thyroid gland should still work fine after this trauma. You can get blood tests to check it out. If your levels are off, low, you will need thyroid hormone supplement, a pill. I doubt that the strangling itself would cause hypothyroidism. You may have hashimoto thyroiditis which is not related to your trauma. Perhaps thyroid conditions run in your family.

I presume an ear nose and throat doctor scoped you and determined that there were no laryngeal injuries. If so, there would have been an offer for surgery.
