Infection (Definition)

Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

I am a female battling BV for about two years. Can my boyfriend develop genital warts or any other infection from unprotected sex with me?

I am a female battling BV for about two years. Can my boyfriend develop genital warts or any other infection from unprotected sex with me?

Persistent BV...: ...is common in many women. Ask your doctor about periodic treatment (e.g. metronidole orally or MetroGel once a week, or vaginal boric acid). Always use condoms; unprotected sex promotes BV. If you have a wart-causing HPV infection, your partner could catch it. BV itself doesn't cause or transmit warts or other STD. Get vaccinated to prevent the 9 most troublesome types of HPV. ...Read more

I took Diflucan (fluconazole) last June 8th for a yeast infection. Had unprotected sex on June 10th. On June 17th the white discharge returned. Has it returned?

Maybe, maybe not: Discharge after unprotected sex likely signals an infection. You need to have the discharge tested and have an exam to know for sure as several infection look like white discharge.

Condoms are always a smart choice. ...Read more

Can i get pregnant if i vomited a little two hours after taking my pill? I'm also on keflex for throat infection & had unprotected sex yesterday.

Yes.: But you knew that already--didn't you? Skipping a pill (same as vomiting it up), antibiotic usage, and unprotected sex are all ways that can make you a parent. Even if the odds are low, they are still there. Be careful out there! be on bc that you control; also be aware that unprotected sex can mean std. ...Read more

Possible to create herpes if you have a vaginal infection and have unprotected sex wit only one partner who has no herpes? No other sexual partners.

Possible to create herpes if you have a vaginal infection and have unprotected sex wit only one partner who has no herpes? No other sexual partners.

No: Humans cannot create herpes (nor create any other life form). It will be a really scary day when man figures out how to create life forms like bacteria or viruses! herpes only comes from somebody else's herpes, but it does not have to be a sexual type of contact. For example, lip "cold sores" are herpes, and most people got them through non-sexual contact. ...Read more

My girlfriend discovered she has a yeast infection today. We had unprotected sex yesterday. Should I be worried and can I get one through sex?

My girlfriend discovered she has a yeast infection today. We had unprotected sex yesterday. Should I be worried and can I get one through sex?

Probably not: Yeast infecitons generally are not sexually transmitted. Sometimes the male partners of infected women develop irritation or itching of the genital area, in which case you can share your partner's yeast cream. Otherwise don't worry about it. However, be aware that STDs can cause similar symptoms as yeast -- so get checked if her problem doesn't clear up quickly with yeast treatment. ...Read more

Should i be concerned of what i assumed was yeast infection? I have had unprotected sex with someone who says they are clean. I developed what seems like a yeast infection but have treated twice with no cure. I have itching, some burning of skin, little

See : See your gynecologist or womens health care provider. Many primary care providers can perform women's health exams as well. If you are suffering from a sexually transmitted infection, then it will be crucial to diagnose appropriately. If diagnosed, your provider will most likely put you on an antibiotic regimen, and can provide a prescription for a topical ointment that can help soothe the skin. Do this right away because an untreated STI can cause terrible effects on the reproductive organs. ...Read more

Period starting 2 weeks early. (And lasting over a week) Pill taken same time each day. Not an infection as not had unprotected sex.

Period starting 2 weeks early. (And lasting over a week) Pill taken same time each day. Not an infection as not had unprotected sex.

Multiple possibilities: The menstrual cycle is a fairly fragile cycle. Your cycle is affected by physical, environmental, and emotional factors. Some women don't have a cycle in the summer because of the heat. Some women stop menstruating if they have a lot of physical activity. Sometimes women are so stressed they stop the periods.
I suggest you let this go for a cycle and see if it straightens out. If it hasn't straightened out then you probably need to go see your gynecologist for further evaluation. ...Read more

My gf was being treated for a vaginal bacterial infection and we had unprotected sex on her last day of treatment. I have a rash now, what can it be?

What could be wrong got an yeast infection 5 days after unprotected sex now im 4 days late for period?

Pregnant?: Get a home urine test strip kit and use it. I was wondering what would happen if youre taking antibiotics for an bacteria infection and have unprotected sex?

I had unprotected sex with my new boyfriend. That was over two months ago. I'm scared to get tested. I haven't shown primary signs of infection, help.

Unprotected: I always tell women they should avoid unprotected sex with new partners until they've been with them at least a year. 80% of relationships end nowadays within a year most because of cheating. Be smart and be proactive and see your physician for not only testing, but some birth control. Many women regret early unprotected sex that leads to pregnancy and/or infection. ...Read more

I had unprotected sex with a new partner. Couple days later had symptoms of a yeast infection but now I'm worried that it may be something else. Help!

Yeast? STD? Herpes?: You don't say exactly what symptoms you have. Maybe it's just what it feels like, a yeast infection. (It's not an STD, but symptoms may be triggered by having sex.) Herpes is the main STD cause of vulvar or labial irritation or itching. Gonorrhea or chlamydia less likely but possible. Don't screw around with this: see a doctor or clinic ASAP. Good luck! ...Read more

Can I take Zithromax again 5 days after taking it already knowing the infection isn't cleared by having unprotected sex three days later?

Can I take Zithromax again 5 days after taking it already knowing the infection isn't cleared by having unprotected sex three days later?

Probably no need: Azithromycin (Zithromax) is very long acting; it remains in the system for over 10 days after a single dose. Having sex 3 days after treatment isn't recommended, but the drug still in your system would prevent you from being reinfected with chlamydia. Maybe a different story if it's something other than chlamydia; ask the doctor or clinic where you were treated. ...Read more

Get a yeast infection almost every time I have unprotected sex with boyfriend, 1st partner; he doesn't have yeast infection. What might be the problem?

Not boyfriend: The problem of yest infections is not usually related to a partner...it's not an STD (sexually transmited disease) but rather an overgrowth of your own flora (yeast re everywhere). Have you taken any antibiotics lately ? (a common cause for yeast infections). It is important to ask if you are diabetic or have/know of any other medical conditions which might be related. ...Read more
