Had CMV infection during childhood.hvng sinus, nasal polyp.get sinus infection often.vng small lump behind ear for 3 years.what could be the cause?

Consult allergist: There are many reasons but none likely related to CMV infection in childhood. Given your problem, you may need an allergy -immunology evaluation plus a CT sinus scan. ENT intervention may also be needed if anatomic obstruction of the sinus openings is found. ...Read more

For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

1cm bump behind ear near earlobe that is painless, feels kinda rubbery to me and doesnt grow. i had ear infections all mylife. related?

Probably not: "Typical" ear infections are usually in the middle ear or the external ear canal, and would not cause any growths near the earlobe. It may be a skin tag or keloid if you happened to have a skin infection or cut or burn on your earlobe. I have seen keloid growths from infected ear piercings also. Since it is fairly large, I would recommend having it looked at by a Dr. ...Read more

I have an enlarged lymph node behind ear. There was a near infection but dr concerned b/c very hard and immovable. Could this still be from infection?

Could be: It could be from the past infection, however, your doctor is correct in being concerned for a hard immobile node. It would be prudent to follow your doctor's advice. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

Dr. Said I have fluid behind ear without infection. How long can this last and at what point should I return to Dr if not better? One week long so far

Middle ear fluid: Greetings. Middle ear fluid causes hearing loss, ear pressure and pain at times and possibly even dizziness. Not sure if your doctor recommended treatment but beginning an OTC nasal spray like Nasacort (triamcinolone) every night might help resolve the effusion. We as ENT doctors recommend considering further treatment after a total of 3 months have passed without the fluid clearing. ...Read more

Could a lymph node behind ear be cancerous it feels hard when touched, i haven't got infection am feeling fine other than I have high prolactin levels?

Could a lymph node behind ear be cancerous it feels hard when touched, i haven't got infection am feeling fine other than I have high prolactin levels?

It depends....: Enlarged nodes can be cancerous especially if they are painless and hard to feel. But a lot depends on the size of the lymph node. If it is more than 1cm (half inch) and it increases in size over the next month or two then you need to get a medical exam to make sure it is not cancerous.A biopsy of the node is the best way to find out what is causing it to enlarge. ...Read more

I keep getting lumps behind my ears, they are small hard lumps i've had weeks at a time, now behind my other ear and i've had no infections, ideas?

I keep getting lumps behind my ears, they are small hard lumps i've had weeks at a time, now behind my other ear and i've had no infections, ideas?

Sebaceous cysts.: Most likely these are plugged oil glands in the lobe of the ear and in the skin behind the ears. This is a common condition. Warm compresses and observation is usually all that is needed and to leave them alone (no squeezing or picking at them). If they enlarge, they may have to be drained or they may drain spontaneously. They may require some antibiotics if infected. If in doubt, see your pcp. ...Read more

Lump: It may an enlarged lymph node vs a cyst. I would recommend seeing your regular physician to make sure that it is a benign lesion. Most commonly lymph node enlarges secondary to an infection but there are other causes as well. It is better that you get yourself checked out. ...Read more

The past 2 days, I have 2 lumps behind my right ear & severe neck pain. I went to dr. & said it was swollen nodes possible infection. Is this normal?

Not Normal: Swollen neck nodes is common and often is from infection. Can be bacterial (like strep throat) or viral (like "mono"). Other more serious problems should be considered if it doesn't get better. This could include hodgkins disease or non-hodgkins lymphoma and would require a biopsy for diagnosis. Other blood tests can help. ...Read more

I have pain when I touch the backside of my head, above the base of skull, but behind ear. Sinus infection/cavities may exist. Advice?

I have pain when I touch the backside of my head, above the base of skull, but behind ear. Sinus infection/cavities may exist. Advice?

Unlikely sinus: Pain in the back of the head is unusual for a sinus infection. This would be more likely an ear infection but this is unlikely as well. This could be a mastoiditis which is rare but plausible. This can come from a middle ear infection not treated or inadequately treated. Other causes could be referred neck pain. See your doctor very soon. Best wishes. ...Read more
