Most dentists recommend to maintain these baby teeth until the permanent teeth are ready to come in to maintain the space. To do this the procedure that involves a "root canal" on baby teeth is called a pulpotomy. ...Read more

Top right gum is swollen & painful. It's near the wisdom teeth & right above one tooth which had root canal procedure. Is it infection or gum disease?

Could be either: A localized infection in that area of gums is difficult to diagnose without and exam and an X-ray. It is possible that the tooth with the RCT is failing and you have an infection associated with that tooth. Or, possibly, the tissue around the wisdom tooth is infected from food impaction or eruption. See your dentist for a definitive diagnosis ...Read more

I had my molar crowned first, and did root canal from bottom of crown, because of infection, pain etc. After root canal, when do I know it went well?

About a week: A root canal from the bottom is typically done only after a conventional root canal treatment had been done. This procedure is called an apicoectomy. If this is your case, then your symptoms should resolve within a week. If a root canal was not done on that molar previously, you may want to see a specialist. ...Read more

I have a root canal appointment on next Tuesday on the 22. I saw my dentist this pasa Monday on the 13 and they did not give anything for infection?

Are you infected?: You assume that because you need root canal therapy that you have an infection... that's not always the case. It is better to get a tooth removed or another root canal. I have had three infections in this tooth,?

1 doctor agreed:

Not really: Tooth infection is caused by micro-organisms. As long as your tooth is sealed off smoking will not affect the tooth. Depends: Antibiotic dosing for an adult for a systemically involved dental infection using Clindamycin at a strength of 300mg is recommended Q8h for a constant blood level. When the cause of a root canal infection is solved, does bone regrow at/near root tip in the space that the infection laid in? How long may it take?

Root canal healing: When a root canal has been completed and the canals are sealed to remove the source of nutrients for the bacteria, studies have shown that regeneration of bone at the apex of the tooth occurs and 71% of the lesions in the bone have complete resolution within one year on average. While some lesions do not heal on their own, surgical intervention can usually resolve this problem. ...Read more

I have a recurring infection from root canal on my front bottom tooth (done 20 yrs ago). Is there any other treatment apart from removal of the tooth?

RCT failure: The treatment options depend upon two factors. First, the cause of the recurring infection. Some such as an incomplete fill can be retreated, while others such as a root fracture are hopeless. Second, one has to consider long term prognosis of any treatment and alternatives. A simple re-treatment or apico\retro by qualified Endodontist might do the trick. Ext and implant might be better choice. ...Read more

What are possible complications of a chronic infection in the sinus because of a perforation from a root canal?

What are possible complications of a chronic infection in the sinus because of a perforation from a root canal?

See Endodontist: It depends upon what was placed into your sinus. If it was the disinfecting solution the denist uses to clean your canals then the sinus usually recovers with no intervention. However, if the 'filling material' of the root canal was placed in the sinus then you need the help of an oral surgeon or ent. Since you said this is 'chronic' I would suggest getting this looked at soon. ...Read more
