I woke up with a swollen lymph node on the back left side of my neck. Quite sore and slightly painful?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well. ...Read more

Is there a difference between an infected lymph node and a swollen lymph node?

Is there a difference between an infected lymph node and a swollen lymph node?

Bacteria: Swollen just means enlarged. Lymph nodes can be enlarged when your immune system is ramped up. This can be from a bee sting, a mosquito bite, or an injury. When a lymph node is swollen because bacteria are inside, then it is infected. ...Read more

Could poking and prodding at an already swollen lymph node generally make it stay swollen for longer/more sore?

Could poking and prodding at an already swollen lymph node generally make it stay swollen for longer/more sore?

No: Swollen lymph glands can arise from mononucleosis, tumor spread, an inflammatory reaction to a virus or bactgerial infection. The node if normal contains follicles filled with spaces producing large numbers of white blood cells to combat the existing problem. Prodding may only cause painful symptoms if excessive but not enlargement. ...Read more

I think I have a swollen lymph node in my neck. It is really sore. I haven't really felt sick. It is really sore. How do I treat it?

Swollen gland: Likely what you are describing is something called lymphadenopathy, which is swelling and inflammation of lymph nodes. This can lead to pain and can be aggravated by movement, depending on the location of the swollen lymph node. Generally speaking, most lymphadenopathy is caused by infectious processes. This could be viral or bacterial. If it is bacterial, the antibiotics can help.Try advil (ibuprofen) too. ...Read more

Just found a swollen lymph node on right side of neck, its sore now that I have bothered it. Should i worry? I have another small one on same side

Likely benign, but: The neck is a very common place for mild lymph node enlargements. We do about 5-6 lymph node biopsies a day-from the neck-and most of them are benign. However if rapid growth is noted, or if bigger than 3cm, or if other symptoms develop you need to have it checked. The most common cause of enlarged lymph nodes in the neck are a viral illness, a dental infection, skin infection and "other". ...Read more

My calves are extremely tense and sore (for a couple months) and I have what appears to be a swollen lymph node (new) in my armpit. Connected?

How to tell when a lump in the neck is a swollen lymph node or something else? My lump is not sore either. On left side only!

How to tell when a lump in the neck is a swollen lymph node or something else? My lump is not sore either. On left side only!

Get examined: I believe these are reactive or benign reactions to your previous story of runny nose but since it is low on neck and on left, have a clinic doc examine that for you. The definite way to tell noninvasively is by radiologic imaging or even a biopsy But those procedures are only planned if your clinic doc saw your person, evaluated your lump and decides. We can not tell by just reading your notes. ...Read more
