Probably infected.: The redness and raised area suggest that it is infected. You can wash with warm soapy water and keep it clean. Use alcohol for cleansing after you wash with soap and water. Don't know but ...: A week or two of antibiotics will not hurt and if the swelling and pain go away so be it. Sometimes you don't see an entry point for a wound but remember that these organisms are microscopic. You cannot seem them with your naked eyes so your doc used his clinical judgement as to what he thought was the most likely thing happening.
