Please describe the therapies to treat swollen/infected lymph nodes?

Monitoring Centers: The lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into arteries and veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. A lymph node "tastes" the lymph to see if anything bad is there like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and enlarges in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is better. ...Read more

Can infected lymph nodes in the neck cause cysts and nodules in the same area of the neck worried about lymphoma?

My dad has stage 3 melamoma cancer they removed the area infected and took out the infected lymph nodes under his armpit. Why are they givign him chemo?

Whats the difference between a lipoma, infected lymph node, and cyst? I have a bump on my neck (left back side) and doc says its one of those 3.

Can be hard to tell: inflamed lumps like you mentioned can be difficult to tell apart clinically. A lymph node that is swollen is usually deeper in the tissue and the surface skin looks normal. A lipoma is usually not inflamed and is soft to touch and often slides around when pushed or manipulated. A cyst is fro a hair follicle and when they rupture are often inflamed and tender. A biopsy may be needed to find out ...Read more

Strep throat getting worse after 2 type of abx. Initially started to improve, but by day 4 started getting worse - pus on throat & infected lymph node?

Not good: Some people do not absorb oral antibiotics very well. You may need to get some shots of antibiotic, IV doses. May also need to make sure you don't have mono at your age. This can cause false positives with some strep tests and would not get better with antibiotics. Especially with "pus" and "infected lymph node" this is a consideration. ...Read more
