Hi after a infected spider bite in 6/ 2011 I had lymph # of 3.1 , lymph % of 30' then in 8/2011 it raised to 3.2 and lymph % 37. rest if cbc normal. CT last month shied several 1 cm nodes. Scared?

NOT TO WORRY,

Tender_lymph_nodes
Your Lymphocyte percentage is within normal limit, though lymphocyte % doesn't have to do anything with an infected spider bite 2 1/2 year ago. 1 cm lymph node enlargement is not also an important factor here. As long as the lymph nodes are not enlarging, not to worry. Your doc will know why S/He advised CT, may be for some other reason!

Dr. David Herman answered:

Is it an infected spider bite or and infected boil?

Dificult to say

Both might look very similiar though a spider bite usually has bite marks. Depends on type of spider.

Common prescription for an infected spider bite?

Boils

Open-uri20130916-24079-1m8rvj8
What people call spider bites are rarely spider bites; they are usually abscesses (boils). The cause is usually Staph. aureus, including MRSA. Antibiotics like TMP/SMX (Bactrim), clindamycin, and doxycycline can be helpful at the early stage, but by the time a boil has formed, they often have to be opened and drained.

How long does it take for an infected spider bite to heal?

Spider bites

Spider_bites
Spider bites are actually very rare in the USA. Unless you actually saw the spider and felt it bite you this may well be an MRSA skin lesion (boil) and that may require a trip to your doctor. You can apply moist heat for 15 minutes every 2 hours and see if it comes to a head, ruptures and drains, but it may still require antibiotics. Go soon and get better.

Infected insect bites? How can you tell, if it's big but no pus is coming out?

Insect bites

Antibiotic
Infection happens usually because of scratching. If the insect bite gets swollen, red, hard and tender, it's probably infection and will need an antibiotic prescribed by your doctor.

How can my boyfriend prevent getting infected insect bites on his legs? It looks really bad?

Don't Scratch

Extremity-leg
If it looks "bad" it sounds like it might already be infected and he needs to see his physician. To prevent infection, no scratching and apply neosporin.
