What's better for baby's gas and colic: Simethicone or homeopathic remedies?

Not so fast: Before you decide that your baby has colic, first get your pediatrician to do a physical exam to rule out other causes. Colic is sometimes due to a component of the mother's diet. Your pediatrician can examine and possibly give you a hydrolysate formula. Consider eliminating certain foods. Till then, rock your baby, sing, soothe, pacify, and don't overfeed. Prevacid (lansoprazole) solutabs making gas worse in infant, help?

Infant colic: Prevacid (lansoprazole) is not known to cause gas. It is used to reduce acid and thus treat reflux to prevent the esophagus from getting inflamed. It is normally given to children more than 1 years old but is commonly used for newborns. If you are right, i would suggest simply using half the dose for a day or so and see if the "gas" is gone. If not, stay on the Prevacid (lansoprazole) and change your infant's diet. ...Read more

Does gas drops vause babies to get constipated?

Probably not.: For most babies, simethicone oral drops are used. There are no reported side effects for this medication. However, if the need for the gas drops involves constipation, perhaps that should be addressed as well. Certainly anything is possible; however, in my 30 years of pediatric office practice, I have never had a parent complain to me that simethicone drops constipate. Another gas medicine might. ...Read more

Would karo syrup help with baby constipation?

Myo clinic Recomend: Don't treat infant constipation with corn (karo) syrup. Dark corn syrup was once a common home remedy for infant constipation. However, today's commercially prepared dark corn syrup might not contain the type of chemical structure that draws fluid into the intestine and softens stool. This makes dark corn syrup ineffective for infant constipation. ...Read more

By : By the date of this post about 4 days has gone by, so hopefully you have made contact with the doctor and your baby is better by now. For the future, and for others reading this post, if your baby seems very irritable and uncomfortable, and your instinct tells you that something is wrong you should contact your doctor. A phone call to the doctor's office after hours will put you through to a nurse or on call doctor. They will ask you a series of questions and advise you on the next best course of action (er visit or next day doctor's appointment). Take good care. ...Read more

Is gripe water (gas relief drops) safe to give to a 2 1/2 week old infant?

They don't work. : Babies swallow air when crying & bottle-feeding. Till ~ 6 weeks, their intestinal smooth muscle does not coordinate propulsion of liquid & air. Use the "football hold". Put baby on your forearm, head at your elbow, face down. Press your palm against his tummy, flex his hips, encircle one leg with your fingers & roll him gently against your chest. Tilt head up to burp, tush up to pass gas. ...Read more

Are there any other remedies for gas besides simethicone? It's not working for me :-(

Are there any other remedies for gas besides simethicone? It's not working for me :-(

1st, why RU gassy?: Feeling full of "gas" may reflect malabsorption of food (like gluten, lactose), intake of poorly digested food, or choosing foods known to promote gas (beans, fizzy drinks). Sometimes its more complicated--a stomach emptying too slowly, bacterial overgrowth syndrome, delayed intestinal function, partial obstruction from any cause, infection, rectum problems, and pelvic pathology outside the gut. ...Read more

Why does simethicone get rid of trapped gas?

Helps break up bubbl: Used for bloating pressure or discomfort and breaks up bubbles in gut, given after meals Simethocone is a adjunct in teatment of bloating, and frankly I have not had much succcess with this in my practice.
Mainly because underlying factors such as aerophagia, belcihng, avoiding gaseous foods, smoking, chewing gum have to be stopped, before seeking help with medicines, which are mostly ineffective. ...Read more

I am taking 125mg simethicone for gas. It does not always work. Is there something you recommend that is stronger? Mostly hormone related, i think.

Antacids may help : Simethicone is best for gas. But sometimes the gas is caused by excess acid. Antacids will help reduce acid and therefore gas as well. You could use acid buffers (maalox/mylanta/tums/rolaids); Gaviscon combines anti-gas with antacid. Or stronger acid blockers like zantac/pepcid (histamine blockers). Or proton pump inhibitors like Prilosec or prevacid (lansoprazole). Some acid blockers combine with anti-gas. ...Read more

How do I relieve bloating and gas? Does simethicone prevent or release gas?

Really just gas?: There are lots of reasons for gassiness & bloating, & not all of them are due to the GI tract. Even "functional" syndromes may be present without underlying "disease." however psbo (paralyzed gut) due to metabolic & inflammatory conditions nearby (like an untreated infection of gyne or urinary tract) must be considered. See doctor, esp. If no relief from otc simethicone, beano, & dietary changes. ...Read more

Protonix (pantoprazole): Protonix (pantoprazole) starts to work fairly quickly - although takes 2-3 days to reach maximal effect (ie, you should have noticed some improvement by now). Remember to take any PPI at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating - as food decreases absorption by up to 70%. Linzess should help with any constipation. Hope that helps! ...Read more
