I just noticed a small lump behind my 1 yr old infant's ear. It's hard & painless without discoloration.What could it be? He had cellulitis 6 m ago.
Very common: For lymph glands to swell up or enlarge when you get a cold or an infection. At times it takes much longer for it to resolve. Not certain: It sounds like there is a fluid collection in the skin behind the ear. Questions to ask yourself: is this soft? Does it move when you touch it? Is it painful or red? Either or see a doc: it could be either a lymph node and that will explain the tenderness and mass effect it could be an oil gland cyst what is called sebaceous cyst that could get hard like a solid mass and it could get infected and turn to abscess like structure either way you need to see your doctor for evaluation and proper treatment at least with antibiotic before the infection spread good luck ...Read more

Hard lump discovered 2 wks ago behind ear. Dr said if not gone in 4 wks then biopsy. Should I wait on biopsy longer than that if no other symptoms?
Your call: If it is stable, and not painful, it is very unlikely to be anything beyond a bit of scar (quite firm ) or a piece of mastoid process (bone hard) or a benign inclusion cyst (sort of firm and smooth).
