Both help with pain: But Motrin is an antiinflamatory as well. This blocks prostaglandins wich causes inflamation and pain. Can I take solodyn, Advil or tylenol, (acetaminophen) and multivitamins together? What are the potential drug interactions? Side effects? Thanks.
Not at same time:
Solodyn (minocycline) has many interactions; taking with calcium (usually found in multivits) can reduce absorption- they should be taken at least 2 hours apart.
Solodyn (minocycline) kills our friendly intestinal flora which can lead to yeast overgrowth ; a wide range of side effects. It's wise to take probiotics ; not use it very long. Topical antibiotics ok. Regular Ibuprofen use can cause ulcers ; GI bleeds. See comment:. ...Read more

Temporary: Brethine (terbutaline) was once used for asthma, but is now more commonly used in late pregnancy to stop preterm contractions. Should not be given to infants/kids. Wears off quickly, so if used to stop labor & labor doesn't stop, by time baby is born med has worn off. In anyone of any age, the most common side effect of terbutaline is brief spell of feeling flushed, fast heart rate or jitteriness. ...Read more
Potentially - yes: Water alone injected as an enema can be absorbed by the baby and dilute the balance of the blood. If enough water is absorbed, the baby can have seizures when this balance crosses a critical level. Small amounts (ounce or two) are unlikely to cause a problem, but I never recommend them. ...Read more

Do to a fall, my 6 week old infant needed a cat scan. What are the side effects of a scan at such a young age? The dr said cancer but how soon?
Wouldn't worry: There is a tiny increase in cancer risk later in life children who have a bunch of ct scans. We're exposed to unavoidable natural radiation every day, and compared to this, the dose you get from a worthwhile ct scan is trivial. I'm glad junior is okay and has a parent who care so much. ...Read more
Possible side effects on infants who's father constantly smokes marijuana in the house? Need specifics to convince father to smoke elsewhere, please.
It's illegal, child: Endangerment. Smoking mj, tobacco, crack, etc. Inside or out of the home (it clings to fabrics) makes your child is a passive smoker, bad for baby's lungs & brain. Because of smaller body surface area, children can get "stoned" by much lower amts. Of mj than adults. Being in an altered state impairs infant development. Dad can't be sole caretaker because of highly ⬆ed risk of accidents & death. ...Read more

DO NOT USE!!:
Reglan (metoclopramide) has a Black Box Warning from the FDA. This is only used when a drug poses serious side effects. Reglan (metoclopramide)
can cause tardive dyskinesia. The internet and chat rooms

I heard that the new rotavirus vaccine for infants should not be given because of possible side effects. Is that true? What is the danger?
Not True: So far the "new" vaccine appears quite safe with no evidence of serious side effects. And the experts continually moniter the vaccine for side effects. And since the vaccine has been used the number of children taken to er's with severe rotavirus dehydration has declined from roughly 400, 000 per year to about 100, 000 per year. Huge and this will only get better. ...Read more
Doubt connection: Any learning disabilities suffered by a premi that survives most likely represent factors that precipitated premature delivery & the need for resuscitation & intensive care, not the ct scan. How much children's Advil can I give my 23 month old son? He is 28 pounds. Infant Advil and tylenol (acetaminophen) are not working
Why not working?: I hope you are using the pain/fever reducers for "comfort care" and not chasing numbers on the thermometer. Infant advil (ibuprofen) has the same ingredient as childrens only it is more concentrated. A maximum dose is: infant advil: 2.5ml every 8 hrs versus children's advil 5ml every 8 hrs. See your doctor if you find your son is not improving over time. ...Read more
