7 week infant has baby acne and dry skin on face. What can I do to help? How long does thr acnd usually last?

Patience: Baby acne is a common and temporary problem. It usually appears by age 2 weeks and disappears by 3 months. Keeping the skin clean is the major plan. If it persists after 3 months and or intensifies, some normal ace treatments can be beneficial, but the doc should look into unusual hormonal issues as a cause at that point. ...Read more

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Not advisable: There is much folklore surrounding the use of urine as a cure-all, but little evidence of any benefit. Urine should be sterile and not cause disease, but there are much better treatments for both oral thrush and acne. Baby acne does not need treatment and will go away on its own. Benzoyl peroxide is far more effective for treatment of adult acne. ...Read more

This is regarding my 3week old infant. He's developed a number of pimples on his face and head. Is there anything I can do or possibly give to him?

Be patient: A baby floating in the slick moist environment of the womb will have pristine skin at birth. Between 2 wks and 2 months, more than half of infants will have transient baby acne triggered by the hormones that came across during pregnancy. Keeping it clean allows it to run its course. If any sites are more inflamed or persistent, your doc should evaluate. It should fade completely by 3 mo. ...Read more

Acne problem, use mild baby powder after washing face and hope it hels me from acn is it good or bad?

Acne and skin care: Prevention is the best course, by using gentle facial cleansers and hyopallergenic moisturizers once or twice a day. Benzoyl peroxide can help as well. The presence of talc and fragrance in the baby powder may make acne worse. ...Read more

Are the bumps on my baby’s face and neck acne?

Are the bumps on my baby’s face and neck acne?

No: Newborns have several types of normal rashes. Erythema toxicum is a rash that looks like flea bites and moves around the body. Nothing needs to be done. Little white milk bumps or milia are like whiteheads and fade with time as you wash the skin. Baby acne looks like little pimples and can be on the face and chest. A warm washcloth to clean is all that is needed. It improves with time. ...Read more

Are baby wipes good to wash your face with when you have acne breakouts?

No: Baby wipes should not be used on one's face. They contain some allergens and would be irritating on the face.
Acne does not go away with washing one's face. I would recommend a cleanser like cetaphil cleanser for acne. ...Read more

What's the oldest age that you might still see some cradles cap on the scalp or baby acne on the face?

What's the oldest age that you might still see some cradles cap on the scalp or baby acne on the face?

6 months: The sweat and oil glands in the newborn need to develop and mature. During this process they can produce effects that appear as cradle cap and "acne". This maturing varies a lot. Most infants mature within a couple months. If signicant effects persist beyond 6 months, further evaluation is warranted. ...Read more

My baby has acne and now his face is left with little pimples and dry skin does that mean his acne is gone?

Baby acne: Baby acne can start around 6 weeks of age and last until 3 months of age. It will often come and go in phases, much like adolescent acne. Make sure you are using sensitive skin (fragrance free, dye free) soaps and lotions to this sensitive area. Call your doctor if things are getting worse. ...Read more

What to do if I have dry skin and What to do if I have acne. I was wondering if I could put on johnson's baby lotion before going to bed to moisturise my face?

Not the best choice: Moisturizing is a great idea, but adult acne prone skin takes special care. Opt for a fragrance free pH balanced non-comedogenic moisturizer from the sensitive skin care section of your local drug store instead. ...Read more

Why is not ok to kiss a 2-week-old baby on her face? I also noticed she have some baby acne will that go away? Why do they get acne?

Why is not ok to kiss a 2-week-old baby on her face? I also noticed she have some baby acne will that go away? Why do they get acne?

Risk/yes/natural: We encourage parents not to expose newborns to any source of illness for the first 8 wks. This is the time frame where germs passed during delivery might show up as blood-poisoning & show only as mild fever. I hate doing blood tests/possible spinal tap on a baby because their aunt wants to play kissy kiss. Baby acne reflects maternal pregnancy hormones & fades by 3 mo. ...Read more

3 month baby with a lot of acne normal? My son just turned 3 months and has had bad acne since he was born. Some days it doesn't look as bad and other days its really bad. I ask his pediatrician and she recommended baby vaseline applied to his face everyd

No: Baby acne is a common event that appears by 2 weeks or so but should fade before 3 months. If it persists, it should be regarded as a treatable problem. Meds for teen acne are often helpful. I never put Vaseline on what I think may be acne. A consultation with a dermatologist & possible workup for hormonal excess are both realistic. ...Read more

Seborrheic derm: Not baby acne, more likely seborrheic dermatitis (cradle cap). Use aquaphor to all affected areas and gently scrape out the crust. Probably not an allergic reaction. The good news is that they grow out of it. Attach a pic if you can :) ...Read more

Does baby acne leave any scars? Does gently wiping the face with a baby wipe after feeding and milk spit ups going to make things any worse?

Soap & H2O better: (I am not a pediatrician, but I am a father.) Neonatal acne does not normally leave scars. It usually goes away on its own. In the meantime, I would recommend using just soap (eg, very dilute baby shampoo) and water on a soft wash rag, and avoiding commercial wipes that may have allergenic oils and fragrance. ...Read more

Hi. Iam pregnant for two months. I want to predict my baby gender. My conception date is sept 9 2012... I have acne in my face, my heart beat was 147?

50/50: There are many old wives tales about heart beats, string tests etc predicting gender but all are bunk. You have a 50/50 chance of being right with any of these methods & those that are right perpetuate the myth. If you want to know before delivery they can sometimes tell on an ultrasound if the male parts are visible. Otherwise, you will know at delivery. ...Read more

Can baby acne spread to ears eyelids and head? Can erythema toxicum neonatum occur at 3-4 weeks and spread to those places as well? Red bumps and pus

Rash in newborn: ETN is not likely the cause (usually in first few days to 2 wks). Neonatal acne is common and generally starts around 3 weeks of age. Yes, neonatal acne can cover the areas mentioned. Another common rash to be considered is seborrheic dermatitis — this rash will typically have flaky patches as well. No treatment for acne, severe seborrhea may be tx with low dose steroid (ask your pediatrician) ...Read more
