Many things: A formal support program helps reduce anxiety and alleviates withdrawal just by taking your mind off it, and focusing on other things. Exercise and other healthful activities can do the same. If moderate to severe, nicotine replacement (patches, gum, lozenges etc.) help, as do the prescription medications bupropion (Zyban) and varenicline (Chantix). Acupuncture&hypnosis help some people. ...Read more

Talk to prescriber: Antidepressants like venlafaxine should be tapered rather than abruptly discontinued. Your doctor has the option of tapering it gradually, or replacing it with another ssri or snri drug, if you were stopped because it was causing problems or was not working. Drug withdrawal: As a general rule the worst should be over in 5 to 10 days. That does not mean that you are going to feel perfect or even well or not have cravings. Emotional upset can make the withdrawal worse. Many say it can take up to year to feel normal whatever that is. In short it is very individual. If possible you should talk to someone in addiction treatment. ...Read more

You can give them a call -- they probably have an off-hours number. Most likely they'll be open early in the morning and you can be seen then. Speak to your doc: Effexor (venlafaxine) is not a simple drug. In some cases it might be detrimental to your health to stop it abruptly. Your physician will take into consideration the reason you were prescribed this medication and decide if you need continuation of Effexor (venlafaxine). If he/she decides that it is OK to discontinue Effexor (venlafaxine) then a planned reduction in the dose over one or two weeks would be warranted. ...Read more
