Metal allergy rash on arm becimes full body rash. Red &flesh colored bumps extremly ichy even w/ hydro 1% cream only ice/ boiling h2o helps. Ideas?!

See Allergist: Given you unbearable itching symptoms and rash refractory to topical steroids I would suggest making an appointment to see an allergist for further workup/evaluation. Many answers: There are many potential answers to your question. However dry skin is often associated with itching with any rash. Avoid using scented or anti-bacterial soap and apply a good moisturizer all over within 3 minutes after bathing. Hot water no help : Poison ivy is a contact dermatitis that takes 10 - 14 days to clear. Hot water will cause the superficial blood vessels in the skin to dialate making the area redder and if hot enough briefly numb nerve endings. It will not in anyway improve or shorten the natural course of poison ivy. The only treatment that partly helps is oral or injectable steroids, but side effects can be significant. ...Read more

Take oral benadryl (diphenhydramine): don't use the topical benadryl (diphenhydramine) cream. Take oral benadryl (diphenhydramine). 50mg is usually ok but it will make you sleepy. See your doctor tomorrow if you can if rash is still bothering you. Cool shower should help with the itch. It is obvious you have a bad allergic reaction.
