Slow heart rate: slow heart rate and may be mental status may be side effects of propranolol. It is very hard to overdose on Propranolol as doctors in late 60s and early 70s were using extraordinary amounts of the medicine (up to 2000 or 3000 mg) (carefully) to treat Hypertension, apparently without many untoward effects. Times do change and it is extremely unusual to see doses higher than 320 mg! nowadays. ...Read more
I don't do this.: Some drs use propanolol (inderal). I do not. This med is cognitively suppressive-esp if used episodically-so it can backfire. My experience is that there are better meds& methods. Also, I do not treat the anxiety only during testing or performing. Whatever meds are used should be used routinely; otherwise, it is less effective. Plus, the patient needs to be acclimated well in advance. ...Read more
Certainty?: If the paramedics were certain that a beta blocker was the overdose, they would radio the base station ER Dr with this information and might be ordered to administer glucagon to attempt to reduce its effect, or possibly epinephrine if the pulse and BP were very low. Mostly ABC support, monitoring and transport to ER for more treatment options than in field. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Possibly: Asthma that is active with airway bronchospasm makes a non selective beta blocker like Inderal (propranolol) problematic, because beta 2 receptor sites line the bronchial airways (wheezing might get worse). If beta blocker needed in that case would use a beta 1 specific agent (metoprolol). That said, history of asthma with no active wheezing probably not a problem for inderal (propranolol). ...Read more

Im on inderal (propranolol) 40mg twice a day for anxiety and hyperventilation is this a good drug for such use at this dose?
Excellent!: This is the best beta blocker because it crosses the blood brain barrier better than any other. The dose is, if anything, on the high side. Many folks feel well on just 10 or 20 mg before a stressful event (but that would be 40-80 mg daily if taken twice a day, so it's not unreasonable.) Another option is Buspirone. ...Read more
I am on inderal (propranolol) for frequent pvcs. They do help in a way but do not stop them completly. Is there anything else I could try?
Im about to start Inderal 10mg twice a day for migraines, advice on how to keep weight off and cholesterol normal please.Im already overweight?
Advise a good diet: Low doses of Inderal which is a beta blocker has minimal effect on weight and on cholesterol levels. Therefore, I wound not be concerned of Inderal having any significant effect on your weight or cholesterol. I would continue to follow a low cholesterol and low calorie diet and undergo an exercise program in order to improve your weight and lipid panel and overall cardiovascular status. ...Read more
