Lots of things: Waking headaches can be from hang-overs (hopefully not every day!), caffeine withdrawal, medication overuse (too many nsaids) or other, more ominous things. Definitely worth seeing a doc for this. Also should start a headache diary with special attention to what you did the night before. Hope more reply too: There could be various reasons for such a difficulty, but in psychotherapy some might call it resistance or defensiveness. Some forms of brain damage could result in such a problem too. It's also possible that some may never develop the skill at all due to intellectual deficits or cultural values.
